MAD FOR PLAID

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, October 31, 2009

On these nails I used a martha stewart glitter in brownstone mixed with clear acrylic. After I finished filing the nails I used a striping brush to paint on a plaid pattern. Finally I added a 3d pumpkin. This plaid pattern would be really cute using Christmas colors also.

Same idea as above just without the pumpkin.

On these nails I used acrylic in brownstone and added some festive Thanksgiving themed stickers. I also added orange and yellow dots with polish.

Happy Halloween!

Posted by Unknown

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope everyone is out there enjoying themselves. Just going to do a quick post on several Halloween related mani's before I start getting ready to head out to watch the Yankee's game :) I just got home from work, and I am SO happy to be home. On with the nails!

Another one of those "pumpkin nail enamel" that I found at rite- aid. An ashy smokey gray packed with micro multicolored glitters! Flattering but not exciting.

This one was my first try at drawing the ghosts out. Didn't turn out super but I've tried. I was going to draw pumpkin like faces on the orange but I didn't have time. I've used the Orly's Halloween 2009 collection. Black creme = Liquid Vinyl. Orange creme = Orange Punch.

And here shown with Orly GOTH was the mani I stuck with for today's Halloween mani. Black creme packed with micro silver glitters. Reminds me of Dior Black Sequins (which is now rereleased for the holiday 2009 collection avaiable at sephora.com)

OPI Glow-Ink In the Dark - a glow in the dark cornflower blue packed with a few shimmers. (click to see the shimmers) It was quite sheer, this was done in four coats to achieve opacity.

And bam here's the glow!

OPI The Ghostess with the Mostess - a glow in the dark white creme. I used one coat of Rescue Beauty Lounge Underwear as the base and two coats of TGWTM.

And look at the gorgeous glow from this one! This one glows the most! I love it! Very spooky like especially when I went to bed at night and saw 10 nails glowing at me >_>

And then I topped it with China Glaze's Spellbound. A clear base coat mixed with copper, silver, and orange glitters. This one is my favorite of all. I love how it looks :)

And here's the glow with the glitters. Spooky!

I hope everyone have a safe and enjoyable Halloween!

Becoming a Make-Up Artist : Paradisco, DreamMaker and Dainty

Posted by Unknown

This is a practice look I did for my sister yesterday, I really wanted to try my new colours!

I think they look really good with her colours.

I started with Soft Ochre paint pot then applied DreamMaker over the whole lid. Followed by Paradisco just on the outer side of the lid.

I tried Trax on the other eye but it looked like she had tripped and nicked her eye on a table corner on the way down. Not the best colour for my fair sister.

L.A. Colors Intense Collection Part I

Posted by Unknown on Friday, October 30, 2009

This is the scariest color I have ever worn! I know some of you are going to love this one but I was actually embarrassed to go out in public with this on my nails. All of my friends and family agree that this is NOT a color for me. I was pretty sure I wouldn't like it but my nails needed to be painted in a hurry so I could join my sister for dinner and this color needed to be swatched. AAAAGGGHHHHH! It was the first thing everyone noticed. Even one of Will's friends came over and immediately commented on it before even saying hello. I didn't get to take it off before I saw him the next day and this very sweet guy said, "April, you're still wearing it." with a vague look of horror.
This came in a set I picked up from Gordman's for $4. Four different colors with no names. I'll show you the rest soon. I'm not sure what to call this color, maybe SUPER BRIGHT neon coral with some shimmer.

Have any of you ladies ever tried a color that was just so not you it was scary?
Thanks for reading!
April

PUMPKIN FADE

Posted by Unknown

This is a fade I did with acrylic in acorn and ripe plum. I made a 3d pumpkin with ez flow acryic in candy corn. First I dip my brush in the monomer and damp it out on a paper towel. Then I pick up a small ball of orange acrylic. I place it on the nail and damp my brush out again. I shape it into a pumpkin then I lightly push a cuticle pusher into the acrylic to make it look like it has ridges like a real pumpkin. I then add a tiny bit of green acrylic to make a stem. Last I add a vine with a nail art pen. Of course I finish everything off with a gel top coat.

POLKA DOTS, FADE, AND FUN!

Posted by Unknown

On these nails I did a fade and then switched it up by doing white acrylic with dots on the ring fingers. Doing something different on the ring fingers is such an easy way to make the nails stand out and they're just cute and fun!

PURPLE FLOWER

Posted by Unknown

On these nails I added flower stickers into the acrylic. I used a small drill bit and drilled a straight line on the edge of the nail. I filled it in with the purple acrylic. To finish off these nails I added dots with nail polish.

Becoming A Make-Up Artist: New Eyeshadows!

Posted by Unknown

I went a little crazy at MAC recently after we have been getting into a bit more creative make-up styles.

I've been making a sort of scrapbook of all the make-up styles I like in magazines and facecharts i've made up. It's all so incredibly exciting!

Let's take a look:

OFF THE PAGE

What an amazing orange! It's that perfect 'fruit juice' orange with a golden shine. Everytime I saw this on display I had to pick it up and try it on my hand. Luckily the MAC store still had one today!

HAUNTING

Another shade that blows me away. Haunting has always attracted me like Off The Page. I can't wait to try this on tomorrow.

DREAMMAKER

I'm not too sure where this one came from.... I have a feeling from that eyeshadow collection MAC brought out earlier this year. I can't remember the name sorry -__-". DreamMaker was the sparkliest and strongest gold I could find and amazingly it was the last one!

PARADISCO

How long have I been eyeing this one up? Too long to remember. I love peaches/mangos with that golden sheen.

TRAX

Love at first sight with this one! A nice plummy maroon again with that attracting golden sheen. I think Mum has this one too.

AQUA

Aqua is a very pastel turqoise. I looked it up on MAC's site but couldn't find it... So i'm not sure whats going on there.

YOGURT

I picked up Yogurt because I thought it would make a really good base colour. It is also more pink than Bisque.

BISQUE

Another shade I thought would be good for a base colour. More beige than Yogurt.

You know whats crazy? I never wear eyeshadows and here I am buying all of these >_<

Halloween!!!!!

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, October 28, 2009

I love Halloween! I want to know what you ladies are going to do this year.

Are you dressing up yourself? Your pets? Your children? I want pictures of any costumes that you thought turned out great.
Carving pumpkins?
Decorating your house for trick or treaters?

If you want to dress up, but are stuck for ideas, Beauty Newbie has tons of MAC Halloween facecharts. I did a simplified version of the very last one a couple of years ago and I really loved the effect. Plus it only took about 10 minutes and was easy to maintain throughout the day.

I also had the third annual pumpkin carving party at my house over the weekend. The results were awesome. I wasn't feeling inspired, but Ashley told me she would dump the rotten pumpkin guts on me if I didn't carve one. (One of Ashley's pumpkins was really gross and smelly for some reason.) So I just did the fastest thing I could think of. I still think he is cute though.

My awesome boyfriend Will is a pumpkin carving master! These are all his.

He used power tools to help create last years Parasite Pumpkin!

And this year he went all out and made a pumpkin that shoots blood out of it's head! (it has a fountain pump)

Thanks for reading ladies and please send me photos of your pumpkins and costumes! They make me happy!

China Glaze Atlantis

Posted by Unknown

Today I have for you one of my favorite glitters from China Glaze's release of 50 specialty nail polishes. Atlantis is a teal aqua green packed with multicolored glitters. This was done in three coats and like all glitters it was a very gritty feel. I ended up applying two coats of Seche Vite; still felt gritty but I was able to deal with it.

And I couldn't resist to see how it would look like in matte. It looks nice but the glitters don't shine like it should.

This Sephora Friends&Family discount has emptied my wallet. I placed one order and didn't seem to be satisfied. I placed a second order, and still wasn't satisfied. I've finally placed a third order, and let's hope I'll be satisfied with all these beauty goodies!
