It's really not too bad because I didn't pay for a lot of it and what I did pay for was mostly with professional prices. And it is way less than last month and the month before.

Oh well. I'll be better in November because the Christmas and Halloween collections are done and over with.

I love giveaways. Each week I'll post giveaways that I think are awesome! I'm trying to catch any giveaway that has nail polish & I always post them on the Monday before they close. On the other hand, I know that I will occasionally miss a giveaway or two. If I miss yours, please know that it was accidental and nothing personal!

I've decided to note which giveaways aren't open internationally. The default will be open worldwide, meaning I'll only note if they have restrictions.

Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire + Butter London Wallis

Posted by Unknown

October 31, 2011

I wanted to start off by saying sorry about all the confusion with my current giveaway. The current giveaway is for United States residence only. Sorry for your trouble if you have already registered and are not a U.S. resident.

This is my first experience with Butter London, and I am so glad it was Butter London Wallis! It is SO beautiful. I recieved this as a "thank you" gift from Lauren from A Polish Change. She is a doll, so stop by her blog and say hello.

This is two coats of the lovely Butter London Wallis with no top coat.

Then I thought I would use another Lynnderella polish! This time it was Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire. I thought it would be neat to see Butter London Wallis peeking through the jelly finish of Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire.

This is Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire with NO top coat. As you can see, it is VERY bumpy and has a lot of texture. This polish defiantly needs a top coat (unless you like this finish). At first I added ONE coat of top coat, and it was still bumpy and had a lot of texture. I was so disappointed in the polish UNTIL the girls in my Facebook polish group said ADD MORE TOP COAT (duh Amy!!!!). So I did. THREE coats of top coat did the trick. The polish was then absolutely gorgeous. See the last photo.

This is two coats of Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire over two coats of Butter London Wallis. This is THREE coats of top coat! Isn't it beautiful?!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?

A Halloween Preview

Happy Halloween!!!

I'm still working through my backlog of nails, which means that you all haven't even seen any of my Halloween designs yet! But I figured since today is my favorite holiday that I would give you all a sneak preview of my Halloween costume, which OF COURSE has nails that go alone with it. But you'll just have to wait to see the nails!

I am a Taco Bell hot sauce! I love Taco Bell!!! Which if you've read my blog before, you know, because I constantly write about how much I love Taco Bell. If you just can't wait to see the nail design that went with this costume, you can see my previous Taco Bell nail designs here (my first T-Bell design, and one of my first original designs) and here (which is more recent, and what I was *thinking* of wearing with this costume).

What were you for Halloween?

Born Pretty Pink Shimmer Polish + Nail Art

Posted by Unknown

Happy Halloween! Ironically, I don't have nails to celebrate. Oops. But I did include some pics of our costumes!

It's been a while since I have shown you anything from Born Pretty Store. It's no secret by now that I'm a fan, in fact I ordered a bunch of cute jewelry and hair accessories from there that I will show you when they arrive. Today though, I have one of their glitter/shimmer polishes for you. I have posted different colors of this line here and here. This one is sort of  a magenta shade packed with glitter/shimmer. Love it.

This cute flower image comes from Born Pretty plate m74. The little dots were done with dual ended nail art pens from Born Pretty and I will have a detailed review of those later!

Stamping plate M74 retails for $2.99 and you can find it here
The polish featured in this review retails for $4.74 and you can find it here.

Also, I have a coupon code that will get you 10% off! It's AMBERL73. :)

And now, here are our costumes! Dustin is Mr. Clean, I am a cleaning housewife (my apron says Born to Shop, Forced to Clean haha), and Taylee is a Magic Eraser. We won Cutest Costume prize at our church Halloween party!

Hope you all have a fun Halloween! I ate candy corn and a doughnut for breakfast. haha

*Products were sent for review in exchange for my honest opinions.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Hot Wired

Posted by Unknown

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone have a fun and spooky, but most importantly safe Halloween! I decided to use the Sally Hansen Salon Effects strips as my Halloween mani instead of doing more nail art (honestly I just ran out of ideas). This is my second time using these strips and was more successful at them then last time.

They came out with many Halloween designs, but I was mostly attracted to Hot Wired. Maybe it's the green, I don't know!

I think it looks pretty neat. The application took me only 20 minutes for both hands. Which I feel is pretty quick. Didn't really have any troubles either.

Only problem I have this time is finding the pieces to fit right. My nails are kind of skinny so it was a little tough. The pinky one was too small, but the next smallest size was too big so I just stayed with the smaller one.

It's not that visible so I think it's OK!

Here's slight bubbling at the bottom of my thumb. But I don't think it's the strip problem, I think there's slight bumps on my thumb from when I had glitters on and I peeled it off from boredom =X very bad habit of mine.

Overall, I'm happy with this. I've only had this on since last night so I'm not sure about how long it'll lasts. I wish there was a konad stamp of this, because this design is pretty awesome! Looking forward to looking at other people's Halloween manis!

Enjoy your Halloween, and eat lots of candies!

Black and White

Posted by Unknown

These nails were supposed to look kind of like wallpaper. I am a huge fan of bold wallpaper, I think it is a necessity in any home so I wanted to try to make something bold and high contrast on my nails. I didn't have very much time so I hurriedly painted these nails. I intended to make the background colors alternate between black and white a bit more, but instead this turned out to be a white heavy design with the details in the black.

This photo actually gives me the opportunity to talk about a fun fact: I hate painting my thumbs. I almost never paint my right thumb, I don't know why but that nail is almost always bare or just a solid color. I have started referring to it as a good luck charm to not paint my right thumb, but obviously that is just a thing I say. Here I didn't paint my left thumb, I think because I was in a rush. Do you have any weird nail habits?

Green Retro Dots

Posted by Unknown

I liked these shades of green and wanted something bold to go with my outfit.
This is an easy look to recreate that doesn't require too much steadiness.

I started with Essie - Absolutely Shore and added white polka dots on top. (You can refer to my polka dot tutorial here if needed.)

Then I used a white nail art striper to draw lines connecting the polka dots like so:

Then I added smaller sized polka dots on top of the bigger dots. I just used the opposing ends of a dotting tool. The green I used is OPI Jade is the New Black.
Let it dry thoroughly before applying a topcoat. You don't want it to smear!

Ozotic Mish Mash 531

Posted by Unknown

I know quite a few of you have been waiting to see this one :) Ozotic Mish Mash 531. The truth is that I just wasn't feeling this one in the bottle and chose to wear the other blue ones first.  I didn't think I was really going to love this polish, I don't know why, but I just wasn't getting the vibe!

I put this on and wore it to a wedding on Saturday and I don't know if its because it complimented my outfit so perfectly or what, but WOW was I soooo wrong.  I love this one so much.  It's my favourite out of the bunch of the Mish Mash polishes - hands down!

Ozotic 531 is the holographic version of Ozotic 502.  I'm certain it is 502 and not 520, because when you check the acute angle, it shifts to the bright yellow of 502, rather than the orange of 520 as can be seen in this comparison post.

The sun was also out on Saturday, so I was able to get some sun shots of this, as well as indoor ones.

The strong shimmer of the golden tones makes it a little hard to see the holographic rainbow at this angle.

OMG I love this next photo angle.  This shows what this polish looks like most of the time.  The spectraflair in the polish has toned down the maroon base and made it appear more brown or copper bronze.  The colour reminds me of our old 1c piece (a little like a US penny).

I love how the spectraflair can tone down the colours in a polish.  It seems to work like a blue/violet hair toner used on blonde hair that has a brassy look to it.   There have been so many times when I have been frankening and I think, 'this colour is a little to strong, it needs some white in it', so instead I add a little spectraflair and it's perfect.

Indoors, near the window, using the LED macro light on the camera.

Like all the other swatches, this was two coats over a black base.  So which is your favourite?  Are you going to buy any of these? Which one/s?

I did the comparison swatches yesterday (comparing my franken of spectraflair mixed 505 vs Ozotic 532 vs 505 + holo top coat.  The outcome is very interesting.  I also did a quick swatch of each of the Mish Mash polishes without the black base.  So pop on by tomorrow for those.

Bloody Fingerprint Nails

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, October 30, 2011

This is the easiest nail art ever! If you want to do something fun for your nails tomorrow, this takes less than 5 minutes. It's foolproof too. I think it would look great over any lighter color for contrast or even unpolished nails. I just brushed some red polish on my thumb and started printing. Both hands are easy to do which is not usually the case with nail art. Seriously, if you have 5 minutes, you can do this for Halloween tomorrow!
Here's a few other examples from some fellow nail bloggers. If you've done a version of fingerprint nails, I'd love to see them! Leave a link in the comments.

Thanks for reading!
