Layering With Zoya Chloe

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Zoya Chloe is a sheer pink topcoat loaded with duochrome flakies in red-orange to gold and gold-green to blue from their new Fleck Effects collection. This set looks gorgeous in their bottles so I decided to try to get the same look on my nails. I think I accomplished my goal!
Chloe by itself is very sheer with just a hint of pink in the base. This is 2 coats of OPI Elephantastic Pink topped with 2 coats of Chloe. Gorgeous! I love all of the Fleck Effects but Chloe is my favorite. I can't wait to try it over other colors.

Thanks for reading!

This polish was sent to me for review. All opinions are my own & were not influenced by Zoya! For more information you can read my disclosure policy.

Yes, it's that time again. Haul post time.

Essie - As Gold As It Gets
Gosh - Fossil Grey

Icing - Blue Magnetix
Icing - Silver Magnetix

And I made two frankens for myself which I can't reveal because I made matching bottles for special people and I want them to be a surprise!

I've been a very bad girl. Very bad. (You should see the clothes I got this month, too.)
In my defense I bought all the Zoya's in December but they came this month.

Also in my defense, I purged a whole bunch of old crappy polish from my childhood that I didn't want to part with until now. I probably got rid of 20 bottles.
As well I brought 12 of my Nail Art Diva polishes to my job to use them there so technically they aren't in my stash anymore. (Yes, I work as a nail tech now, which I haven't mentioned before, but I have the best job in the world!)

I brought a lot in, but I took a lot out. I'm okay with this.

(Now I have to save though, because I'm heading to Toronto and New York in April! I need to be a good girl until then so I can spend oodles of money on polish there. And oodles at Forever 21. And H&M. And everywhere else. Will I succeed at being good in February and March and the first 3 weeks of April? Probably unlikely with all the new collections coming out!)

How did you do this month?

Nail-Venturous Nail Lacquers Crawfish Boil

Posted by Unknown

January 31, 2012

This is a matte polish (called Crawfish Boil) I made as part of my Louisiana Hospitality Collection! This is two coats and of course no top coat.

The photo below shows the Nail-Venturous Crawfish Boil with a shiny top coat over the ring and pointer finger.

I stamped on a nail design with Kleancolor Metallic Red and Konad Stamping Plate M70.

Here is another one of my frankens from my Louisiana Hospitality Collection called Southern Belle!!!!  You can see it as one coat by itself, over light blue, over dark blue, and over black.

Nail School - Day 16

Posted by Unknown

Today was emotional. I think I went from happy to sad and back about 15 times. This morning I was really peppy and excited because, in conjunction with our 100 hour exam (which I wrote about yesterday) we have a 100 hour practical exam where we are graded on a manicure and pedicure that we perform. The grading process goes like this: All of the students get together in the pedicure room (where there are four pedicure stations and two manicure stations) and perform services on each other and the teacher watches us. That means that the teacher is watching six different services at once, which is a lot! I noticed that she wasn't paying a lot of attention sometimes, presumably just because there was so much to watch. I gave a pedicure to my partner first -- which was the first source of my mood change. I happened to be at the pedicure station that was DIRECTLY in front of the teacher, which usually would not bother me, because I'm confident in what I do. But, today, I gave the worst pedicure of my life. I mean, I did horrible. It was so bad that I don't even care about what grade I got on the exam (we find out tomorrow), all that I care about is the fact that I feel like I got worse. I wasn't proud of my work and I wasn't proud of myself. I don't typically have off days, so this really got me down. After the pedicure I was in a bad mood out of disappointment in myself. I started gaining my composure back as the day went on. My partner gave me a great pedicure and after lunch, I was back to my usually happy self (though still a bit disappointed). I mean, I know people have off days, and that I can't always be perfect, but I felt like I took a huge step backwards. On the plus side, I feel more driven now to perfect my pedicure! After lunch I gave my partner a manicure, which COMPLETELY changed my mood. She had very thin nails due to an acrylic removal so I took great care in buffing them and really changed their appearance. And, not only that, but when I polished her nails it was one of the best polishes I've done on someone who isn't myself! I was so proud.

In fact, the manicure was so great I figured I'd share it with you. I got to use my partner's personal nail polish, which was from the new OPI Nicki Minaj collection. The color is called Metallic 4 Life and it featured multi-sized silver hexagon glitters in a black jelly base. It had an incredibly easy application for a glitter polish and in only two coats I achieved opacity (though I've seen else where that it really needs 3 coats). The glitter came out of the bottle easily and the polish was so beautiful that I would highly recommend it. I'm not usually a huge glitter nut, so I was surprised I loved it so much! Hope you enjoy:

China Glaze Fuchsia Fanatic + Nail Art

Posted by Unknown

Hi!

Today's polish is another one of my picks from the China Glaze Electropop Collection. This is Fuchsia Fanatic. I can honestly say I don't have a berry pink like this in my collection! haha You can get good coverage in 2 coats, but for no VNL, you will want 3.

I recently got my hands on Color Club Fame and Fortune from the Backstage Pass collection. It was my only must have of the group. Fuchsia Fanatic is the perfect underwear for this polish! Although you lose some of Fame and Fortune's jelly effect, it still helps cut down on unnecessary coats of glitter that can be a pain to remove. So I used that as an accent nail, while the rest of my nails have the stars from the old set of Bundle Monster plates stamped with Color Club Foil Me Once. It ended up very subtle in person though.

I also wanted to mention that we added a new category of iridescent flakies to You Mix Cosmetics this morning! They are available in a 3 gram size, or you can get 1 ounce. You can check them out *here*.

Zoya True Collection and Fleck Effect Collection for Spring 2012

Posted by Unknown

Today I have the Zoya True Collection and Fleck Effect Collection for Spring 2012 to share with you guys. Zoya came out with six gorgeous shades for the Spring with three cremes, and three gorgeous shimmers. Along with the True Collection, is the Fleck Effect collection which consists of three flakies! That's right FLAKIES!

Cho is a gorgeous yellow toned beige creme. 3 coats. I can't help but to think of Harry Potter and Cho with this name :)

Farah is a tan beige creme. 2 coats. I love the look of this one because it is very neutral and it has this unique shade on it.

Bevin is a smokey turquoise green creme. 2 coats. I love this musky like look of polishes, where the color isn't vivid but it still stands out.

Skylar is a slate blue with gold and silver shimmers. 2 coats. How gorgeous is Skylar?! I love how you can see both the gold and silver shimmer.

Tru is a purple base with gold shimmers. 2 coats. Tru has a true purple look to it (you see what I did there? har har har) And I was quite surprised I was able to capture it on camera since purples usually translate into blues in pictures.

Lotus is a dusty purple with pink shimmers. 2 coats. I love this one! I think pink and purple goes really well together.

The True collection is the perfect collection to welcome the Spring season. There wasn't a single color I didn't like. The formula is the typical Zoya formula which applied flawlessly. Only Cho needed three coats, under two coats my nail line was still visible and I didn't really like that. Nevertheless, the collection is simply gorgeous!

Now let's have a look at the Fleck Effect Collection!

Masie over Cho. Masie is a green flakie with a very sheer blue base

Masie over Farah

Opal over Bevin. Opal is also a green flakie in a super sheer green base.

Opal over Skylar.

Opal over Skylar without flash. This shows more of the green.

Chloe over Tru. Chloe is a pink, orange, and green flakie in a super sheer pink base.

Chloe over Lotus

Chloe over Lotus with different angle to show the flashes of orange and green.

Chloe without flash over Lotus, showing more flashes of orange, and green, and you can see slight pink flashes here.

I am a true flakie fan, so I was super excited to see that Zoya was making flakies! These were a little on the thick side, but being that it's a top coat that's not an issue for me. I know we've seen plenty of green flakies and orange flakies, but this is from Zoya!

Overall, I am quite satisfy with the collections. I can't pick favorites because they're all gorgeous. I love the shimmers the most!

Well that's all I have for today, what do you guys think of the True Collection? and the Fleck Effect collection?

(These were sent to me for review(

China Glaze - Kaleidoscope Collection - 4 Swatches

Posted by Unknown

Good morning everyone! Today I'll be showing you 4 polishes from one of the most popular (and hard-to-find) China Glaze collections, the Kaleidoscope Collection.

2 of these polishes are mine and 2 of them belong to my friend Emma who let me swatch them for your viewing pleasure! (And also so I could decide if I wanted to get them for myself.)

I'll show you the two I do own first. (My favorites!)

China Glaze - He's Going In Circles
This was the first Kaleidoscope I felt I needed and an amazing friend, Laurie, got it for me for my birthday!
(You may remember Laurie from her guest posts here and here - she won't be needing anymore though because she's just started her own blog! Check her out at Dressed Up Digits.)
He's Going In Circles is a light seafoamy green scattered holo, and I adore it. The color is so "me" and the holo effect in these polishes is unlike any other holos, it's scattered and sparkly and pretty. I love it!

Before I go on to the other polishes, I'll tell you where they came from.
Another great friend, Chelsea from Pretty and Polished, does a lot of dusty hunting. She finds beauties like these and other Kaleidoscope/OMG polishes and she sells them on her blog for really great prices.
Not only does she sell hard-to-find polishes, she sells her own custom frankens too!
Check out her Etsy store here, she has amazing polishes! I have 3 of those babies to show you and I hope to swatch them soon!

Okay, after that name dropping, we are ready for the other 3 polishes.

China Glaze - How About A Tumble
This one is a beauty, too. I thought I only needed the green one, but then I saw this one! It's a pretty pink shade, purple-toned. Yum yum yum.

China Glaze - Don't Be A Square
This is another pink but a more salmon-colored pink. This one is lovely, they're pretty much all lovely.
The formula on all of these is good too, 3 coats but they apply really easily.

China Glaze - Kaleidoscope Him Out
This is probably my favorite name from the collection! It sounds like a pun OPI would use. This color is also lovely, it's a light blue with the same pretty sparkly scattered holo.

There are 8 more colors from this collection that neither myself or my friend have, so I don't know if I will ever show you more of them. Maybe someday I'll buy a few more. There are more pretty ones!
(But I am not going to get all 12 like I did with OMG. My wallet can't handle that.)
