I took inspiration from Rebecca and have been of the mindset that I don't need to buy many polishes as of late. Lord knows I have more than enough already, and none of the newest collections for summer have appealed to my anyway. A "no-buy" attitude has been looming in the back of my mind for a week or so now....
However the world keeps throwing these temptations at me! I can't resist when people offer to give me FREE nail polish! That would be crazy!
The first thing to happen was that I heard back from some nail polish companies. Last week my mother convinced me that if all it took was to write an email to a PR representative to get free samples, by golly I should be writing until my hands cramp! So I heard back from Milani. The lady was soooo nice and she asked me which particular polishes I was interested in. (WHAT?! I get to choose too?! Awesome!) I tried not to be too greedy and said the Jewel FX because they're sold out in my area. 2 days later, I get a package! Hooray for free stuff!
I already had Red Sparkle in my collection (and love it!) You've already seen Gold Glitz in my Hunting Giraffes post. And here is Jewel FX in silver.
I just focused on an accent nail because I wasn't ready for a difficult removal process at the time. ;)
The other nails are Essence Show Your Feet - Deep Blue Sea (thanks Ivana!) It makes me think of ChG First Mate on shimmery steroids. I love it.
So then the second thing to happen was that a coworker mentioned that she had a bunch of old polishes that she never wears. She said she would bring them to me since I love that sort of thing. (I tried my best to contain my happy dance...) The next day at work she hands me this bag-o-goodies!
Yes that is Milani Dress Maker, one of the many dupes of Chanel Jade! It's too bad I just got Catrice Sold Out Forever from Ivana in the swap as it's another dupe. Dress Maker has found it way into the mix of a giveaway I'm currently cooking up! :)
Would you like to see what the other colors are?
I'm so happy, these are all great colors that I didn't have. I told her that I would come up with a design using these polishes to show her their true potential! She doesn't know what she's missing, but she can keep 'em coming my way! I'll gladly take them off her hands.
So then I said "No-buy? More like go-buy!" And when shopping.
- I stumbled on the gold Milani Jewel FX after just saying that they were sold out, so of course had to get it.
- I wanted the Sally Hansen Red Chrome pen after Rebecca's review proved to me that I needed it.
- I heard great things about the Revlon CrazyShine buffer, so I picked it up (and it is fantastic)
- The Kiss Nail Art pens are something I want to try when using letters in my nail art. When I try to do it now with a brush and paint, it comes out looking like a 3 year old did it. (Heads up, the black one might as well be a Sharpie permanent marker... why didn't I think of that. The white one is very runny and not opaque in the least :( You'll see them soon enough!)
And my Viva La Nails blogger pack came in the mail today. So I have 5 different sets of stickers and water decals to try out! A no-buy thought turned into a lot of stuff in just a few days.
