You Mix News: We have flakies!

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Hey everyone! The week is halfway over...it can't come fast enough!

I just wanted to let you know that iridescent flakies have been added to the site as of yesterday! They are not as intense as some flakies out there, but you can still create some neat polish with these. As an experiment, we added some to a clear polish with some pigment and the effect was gorgeous!

Keep reading to see swatches of these over black.

It has been a number one request from our customers to see larger quantities available for purchase, and we are happy to offer that option with these flakies. You can get a 3 gram jar for $2, or 1 ounce for $15.

I have also added this note to our About page: Please keep in mind that we run this site on the side while balancing a one year old, and Dustin's final semester in school. Once he graduates in April, we will be devoted to this site full time. We plan to expand with more products, and larger quantities to buy at a time over the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

You can visit You Mix Cosmetics *here*.

Simple Plaid

Posted by Unknown

These are just a simple plaid that I added to a manicure that one of my fellow nail students did on me. I think I would have made them a little less simple if I were to go back and do it again, but I was exhausted from a long day at school!

Current Favorite polish with tips :)

Posted by Unknown

So this post is going to be short & sweet, hope you don't mind :)

What's my favorite polish at the moment.......OPI Crown Me Already. I love the mix of big and small silver glitter, and the fact that I only need 2 coats. After a coat of SV, it's soooo sparkly!

Then, since I was wearing some cobalt blue pants, I wanted to add some matching tips, so I used Brucci Blue Sapphire

Nail Polish Jewelry

Posted by Unknown

I've seen this all over the place. I just never understood how to do it myself. Until now! Thanks to Sarah over at Chalkboard Nails! She wrote up this post about some Nail Polish Earrings that she made and she outlined not only how she did it, but where you bought her supplies from. I went and bought from the same supplier and did exactly as she said. And I'm soooo happy with how they turned out!
I bought enough to make 10 sets of earrings and then 10 silver necklace pendants and 10 brass necklace pendants.

Take a look at what I've made so far!

Revlon Whimsical & ChG Sea Spray

Sally Hansen Glass Slipper and dots of light pink, dark pink, coral, and lime green.

Sinful Colors Nail Junkie

Impala SPFW na mira 3d (I got this in a swap with Francini in Brazil)

Speciallita HITS Mari Moon - Artsy
(Such duochrome awesomeness! It reflects all of these colors!)

Then I went flakie crazy and put a layer of pretty much every one I own. Finished it off with black polish as the very last layer. This is Finger Paints Twisted, Asylum, and Big Universo - Espectral (also from the swap with Francini) You can see I was impatient with this one and glued the cabochon into the blank before the polish was completely dry. That's why there is some smudging of the polish along the bottom. :( That's ok because I'll still wear it proudly!

Now onto the earrings...
Wet n Wild Pure Ice - Cost Is No Issue

China Glaze White Crackle and For Audrey

Jessie's Girl Confetti (this flashes from blue to purple, but my picture does it no justice)

Finally I tried some stamping, because supposedly you can do that! It's much harder than I thought. I had a hard time getting the image to stamp clearly because the back of the cabochon is slightly concave. But I still like them!

I bought my supplies from CandyTiles.
