So lovely ladies, remember this post where I talked about finding the most beautiful polish bottles of all time? Well I ordered some to see for myself. :) The bottle is so gorgeous! Even if the polish was utter crap, I felt the bottle was worth the $.
I ordered Coral Bliss & Caribbean. They came in the other day safe and sound. Quick shipping. I ordered from the Megan Miller website, each polish was $12. Shipping was $5. It came in a small box with these babies tucked in safely surrounded by lots of brown paper strips (think Easter grass, but brown grocery bag paper).
The cork handle surrounds a small plastic handle with the brush attached. No worries about the cork just sliding off, it's secured very well. The cork also proves really nice to work with! It's slightly squish-able, so you can get a good grip on the handle to then apply it to your nails. We all love Orly's rubberized handles, but this cork handle was even more of a pleasure to work with! Very easy to control.
First up is Caribbean!
My first thought is that it was terribly sheer. Not thin though. I didn't have any problems with cuticle flooding, the polish stayed where I put it. It is a jelly finish turquoise/teal! This pic is three coats and you can still see some visible nail line, but it has that juicy jelly texture that some love.
I failed to take color comparison pics, sorry! But it's not an exact dupe for anything in my collection anyhow. It's darker than China Glaze For Audrey, "dustier" and darker than Orly Ancient Jade, and a good bit different than anything else in my stash of the teal family.
Left hand is 3 coats of Caribbean by itself. Right hand is 2 coats of Caribbean over Orly's Ancient Jade as an underwear polish. You can see that the right makes the color brighter, and takes care of VNL.
The left is nice in that it takes on a dusty, muted quality. It's nice that the polish can go either way.
After I applied Seche Vite, I did notice that I had some shrinkage.... and yes I had wrapped my tips. I seem to have this problem with jelly finishes especially. Topcoat seems to make them shrink up more.
Next up is Coral Bliss!
The pictures didn't capture it exactly, but it has the same jelly finish as Caribbean. Same VNL, etc. Pics are color accurate however. 3 coats and because of the jelly finish, it takes on a dusty shade if worn with no polish "underwear" (lol, going commando!)
I thought I would compare the shade with various other corals that I have in my collection.
(Megan Miller Coral Bliss is on the left in all the following pictures)
H&M - Juicy Peach is slightly more red-toned and also more opaque.
Eyeko Coral Polish - definitely more red-toned and more opaque.
Sinful Colors Thimbleberry- darker, stronger coral presence, more opaque.
Essie Tart Deco - much lighter, more pink-toned, more opaque.
Final conclusion?
Don't spend $12 on these if you don't like jelly finishes. I have a feeling that is how the entire collection is. However, if you LOVE jelly finishes? These are definitely for you. Also if you are a particular teal or coral lover, then grab these because they are unlike what you already have. I think they were definitely worth the $. Beautiful colors in beautiful bottles, these are definitely not going to hide in a drawer somewhere. These are out on the top shelf for all to see! Their formula was pleasant to work with. Not too thick, not too thin. Stays where it's put, builds to bottle color after a reasonable number of coats, shiny without topcoat. What more can I say? I'm a fan. :) Now let me know what you think!
