An Exciting Announcement!

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Hello again everyone!

Dustin and I have been working hard the past few months to put together a website that will provide franken supplies that are typically harder to find. We have the XXL and XL stamping plates there also! There will also be a few other things as time goes on. We are expecting a shipment of magnetic polish soon!

This way I don't have to bug you guys on my blog and have it totally devoted to nail polish and nail art. I will be featuring products from the site every once in a while, and we hope to be reaching out to bloggers in the near future to help us spread the word.

Our site's name is:

And you can find the site *here*.

We would love for you to take a look and tell us what you think. The site is simple, and probably still needs to be tweaked a little. If you do see something that looks wrong, please contact me!

Thanks for your support, and spread the word! :)

UNTRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS NAIL ART

Posted by Unknown

Sometimes I just tell a client to pick all of the glitters they like off my desk and then I mix a little of each one together and voila, fabulous nails! I love how this glitter pops against the white. This white is Northern Lights from INM.

Bah humbug! This client was not in the mood for Christmas Nails. LOL

These little swirls are from nailsgallerysupply.com When I do a smile line on the nails I use reverse application. You can view a video of how to do this through youngnails.com click on get educated.

To do this 3d Christmas character I first use green acrylic to shape the face, then I hand paint the red hat, I use a little white acrylic to put on a collar and fluff on his hat. Then I outline the hat using a nail art pen and add the details on his face.

I found that the easiest way to do the 3d candy cane is to first make an outline of where you want it with a nail art pen. Just follow the outline and cover the line just slightly as you go. On the penguin I used white acrylic for the body. The other details are hand painted with a small paintbrush I purchased from a craft store.

Just because it's Christmas doesn't mean you have to do red, green and white. I love the twist of using pink, purple, and black!

These nails were inspired by a piece of scrapbooking paper. I got the silver trees from sparklesnailproducts.com. I put a little green and gold tinsel/glitter on top of the green. It is from a martha stewart glitter collection.

Fozzie was a loser.

My Fozzie Bear manicure for OPI's Facebook Muppets Nail Art contest was a failure! :( It only took the first week for me to realize that it's pretty much just a popularity contest, and I'm not that popular on Facebook. Lol. *edit* Please read through the comments as this didn't come across the way I intended! Sorry I suppose this is pandering for votes.*end edit*
I have entries for each week and I plan on entering each time in the hopes to get my hands on the entire Muppets collection as a prize. So please click the link on the upper right side of my blog to see my Gonzo entry.

Anyway, this is my Fozzie manicure for all to see that missed it.

These are the only step by step pics I remembered to take. I forgot when I painted the rest of the face. :) Sorry, but you get the idea.

What are you waiting for!? Go vote once per day for me (you can vote for multiple people. so vote for them too). The link is on the upper right hand side of my blog page.
Thanks!

Zoya Nail Polish in Holly with an accent nail of Zoya Rina!

Posted by Unknown

Zoya Holly with an accent nail of Zoya Holly topped with Rina.

We really love the accent nail trend here at Zoya. In this posting Concrete and Nail Polish creates the look with each of the new Zoya Gems and Jewels Collection colors and even has a great application tip (see below) for applying the bar glitters...
"Rina is a mix of fine green shimmer, small green bar glitter that flashes blue and a bit of small holographic bar glitter. I have always thought that bar glitter was just gross and hairy looking. Rina, however, is really gorgeous. It looks like super sparkly vinyl or astroturf when layered over Holly. So cool! Rina's formula is very nice too. I recommend running your finger along your free edge just to make sure that no bar glitter is hanging off. Just takes a second and made a big difference."

A Closer Look At Zoya Gems & Jewels

Posted by Unknown

Pictured above are Rina, Twila, & Izzy on white paper so you can really see all of the glitters that went into each one.

I wanted to see how the glitter polishes looked over each of the shimmers. I used 2 coats of the glitter polishes.
First up we have my favorite, Holly. I think Twila actually looks better over Holly than it's blue counterpart Noel. Be warned, tons of pictures since I loved the glitters with Holly! (Pinky-Twila, Ring-Rina, Middle-Izzy, Pointer-Holly)

Next we have the glitters over Twila. (Pinky-Izzy, Ring-Twila, Middle-Rina, Pointer-Twila)

And finally we have the glitters over Izzy.  (Pinky-Rina, Ring-Izzy, Middle-Twila, Pointer-Izzy)

That's a lot of pictures! I know many people love Izzy best but Rina wins for me. It is so perfect for the holiday season! I think I;ll be using it for some sort of Christmas tree or wreath manicure soon.

Thanks for reading!

This polish was sent to me for review. All opinions are my own & were not influenced by Zoya! For more information you can read my disclosure policy.

Poptart Inspired Nails!

Posted by Unknown

Hi ladies!

Today's mani came out unintentionally to look like a strawberry Poptart. My sister pointed it out and I couldn't stop thinking about Poptarts when looking at my nails after that.

{source}

The base is Sinful Colors White on White and OPI Rainbow Connection is in the middle, with one thin coat of Essie Marshmallow on top. I am loving the effect the Essie gives Rainbow Connection. I think it makes wearing a  chunky glitter like that more doable for everyone!

Now how many of you are craving a Poptart? haha

BPRD

Here is one for the nerds! The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (or the B.P.R.D.) is an organization aimed at protecting the world in the comics of Mike Mignola. Most famously, the B.P.R.D. is in the Hellboy comics and films. I haven't read many of the comics, but I hear they are amazing. And I have to say, Mike Mignola's work is beautiful. When it was announced that Hellboy, the movie, would be directed by Guillermo Del Toro, I think that (the fiance) Ron pooped himself. His list of top 20 favorite things in the world would probably include Hellboy, Mike Mignola, and Guillermo Del Toro, so it was a match made in heaven!

On my nails are the initials B.P.R.D. and the symbol of the organization. I did these nails really, really fast (I think it was about 10 minutes) so they ended up really sloppy. At some point I am going to attempt some more Mike Mignola inspired nails, but not until I'm a way better artist!

Solution for Frosty Brushstrokes!

Posted by Unknown

There is an easy way to solve the problem of the pesky frosty polish that applies and show each individual brushstroke. It can really distract from the beauty of the polish, so how can you get rid of it? Sponge on the final coat!

Take for example Pure Ice Platinum.
This is 3 coats and it's full of brushstrokes.

Take a small piece of a makeup sponge, or a clean eye shadow applicator like pictured here, and sponge on the last coat of nail polish.

Look at that smooth finish?! What a drastic change! It's a super easy technique that anybody can use to get more use out of their polishes. Now you don't have to pass up anything for fear of pesky brushstrokes!

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy!

ADORme - Metallic Green

Posted by Unknown

I've been so busy lately that I haven't done any swatching, and I've only been changing my mani every two - three days. One of those manis was an amazing dark blue glitter franken that I made, but stupid me only photographed it in VGA mode (which is what I set the camera to when taking photos of the colour morphing powder/spectraflair envelopes before I post them).  So the photos I took of that mani are just terrible and I refuse to post them here.  I will have to redo them.

After this post I officially have no spare swatch photos to post!

This polish is one my mum picked up at the local dollar shop.  The brand is ADORme and they stink to high heaven.  But the polish is great.  It wore well and covered in two coats easily.  In fact it would probably be ok to stamp with as well.

I love foil finishes, and I didn't have one this colour in my collection, so it was a great score.  It was also under $2.

I love finding these random brands from China, the problem is that next time you visit the store it's unlikely that you will see the same brand or colours again.  So if you see something you like, grab it then.

Also, I'm looking for some recommendations for a cuticle remover.  The ones that you paint around your nails and they dissolve the dead skin off the edge of your nail near the cuticle.  If anyone has a good recommendation I'd be very grateful.

NFUOh 073

Posted by Unknown

NFUOh not only does really cool flakies, but they actually do some really nice other finishes too.

I picked out these three shades to try NFUOh 073 over:
Top to bottom: Essie Marshmallow, OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late and I have a feeling it's China Glaze Platinum Silver.

At first I just tried one coat (obviously) to see how much effect 073 had on the polishes. The frost and pearl finishes didn't let you see much of 073, I think a creme, sheer or jelly is more friendly for this kind of thing.

Here we go on to two coats! 073 over Essie Marshmallow and naked nail were turning out to be my favourites. Although I really loved 073 by itself, I would probably never wear it that way.

The formula of 073 is great, smooth and thin. The only iffy NFUOh formulas I have experienced have been from the more sheer, french colours.

Please enlarge the photos to see the detail! It really is a pretty polish, looks great in all lighting situations too.

Now I don't really know where to buy these in New Zealand but there is a site called FabulouStreet.com that ships internationally. USA residents can even get free shipping.
