China Glaze Metro Collection - swatches and review

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, July 21, 2011

Hi guys! I have an exciting post for you today.

A few months ago, I posted a press photo for the China Glaze Metro Collection. And since then, I have been getting so many hits from Google searches for the collection, it is unreal!
"China Glaze Metro swatches" is the third most popular search term that leads people to my blog.
Similar phrases are in 7th and 8th place, as well.

So finally, dear readers and Google-searchers, I have some Metro Collection swatches to show you.

Yesterday I got a text from Kayla Shevonne which said she had found the Metro Collection at a professional beauty supply, and she wanted to know if I wanted any.
Immediately I said "Skyscraper!"
Kayla knows me too well, and mentioned that there was a mini set that included Skyscraper. Sold.

Skyscraper, CG in the City, Urban-Night, Midtown Magic.

Let me talk about minis again. I love China Glaze minis.
Regular China Glaze polishes are 14mL and the minis are 9.2mL.

Meaning, the mini bottle is 2/3 of a regular bottle.
If you are like me, you rarely use an entire bottle of polish. So these minis are awesome! You can get a lot of use out of one of these.
A lot of polish brands are this size regularly! Brands like Sally Hansen, Essence, and many others are 9-11mL.
What's even better is this set of minis was $8.95 at Kayla's professional price. Had I bought the full size bottle of Skyscraper at Sally's or Chatter's it would have cost $5.99 or $6.99. So I'm really pleased to be able to have 4 colors for near the same price.

Let's get started!

This is Midtown Magic. China Glaze describes it as a burgundy base with flecks of gold shimmer, but on the nail it is more of a brown with gold, green and bronze shimmer.
The base is burgundy, which is visible on the first coat:

But the second coat really makes it very brown.

The true color was a bit hard to capture so I've included lots of pictures of this one!

If you know me, this is not a very "me" color, so I've decided to pass this on to my friend Laurie! You might remember her guest post. Laurie likes brown, vampy colors.

This is Urban-Night. Beautiful rich purple creme. The difference in one coat and two coats is crazy:

Such a difference!
This polish is gorgeous.

And super shiny. No topcoat in these photos!

This is similar to another polish in my stash - Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Trouble Maker.

Urban-Night does dry a bit darker on the nail than in the bottle, so there is a difference in these polishes, but not a major one.

CG in the City. This is a strange glitter, it gives off a purple look in the bottle but on the nail that sort of gets lost.

See the purple? China Glaze says it is dusty purple, bronze and silver. The silver is a very dark silver and it comes off sort of black.

This is 3 coats and you can still see my nail underneath. It sort of looks dirty on its own, I don't really like it.
But... Over Urban-Night...

Holy gorgeous!

I love it. So much.

This combo makes me so thankful that Kayla knew how much I like minis! Haha!

Last up is Skyscraper. The one I wanted most, and for good reason.

It's a blue jelly packed with silver and blue glitter. This is 3 coats.

It is so sparkly and pretty.

I'm wearing this as a full mani now.

Overall, these polishes are awesome.
The formula is great on all the polishes, especially Urban-Night, and I'm willing to bet it is the same for the other 8 that I don't have.
Midtown Magic is not a winner for me personally, but the formula is great.
CG in the City is "meh" on its own - but layered? Awesome.
Skyscraper is just so pretty and unlike anything else I own.

I hope you guys enjoyed these swatches! These polishes should be popping up everywhere in the next few weeks and into August. :)
