Wacky Races

Suggested by Jessica, once again. I had thought of these guys just hadn't gotten to it yet.

Penelope Pitstop, one of the Slag Brothers (relatives of Captain Caveman, I presume?), and Luke the hillbilly.

Dastardly and Muttley

These were the characters I most remembered, so that's why I limited it to just them. I know there were soooo many running characters from this series. I hope you like it & have a great day!!!

Flintstones 2.0

Flintstones is what started out this entire epic cartoon series. I did a design based off of them here, on my natural nails. I decided it deserved a spot in my mixed media art project as it will also be well recognized.

I hope you can tell which characters that they represent without me having to list it.

Dino was actually painted using Zoya Keiko and Orly Lollipop. None of my acrylic paints were the right color, and I didn't feel like mixing for thirty minutes to get it right. I looked up on my shelf and those two colors just jumped out as perfect.

Augie & Doggie Daddy

I remember these guys and they showed up on a Hanna Barbera collective picture I found to use as reference. Thought I'd include them since I haven't had time to paint any large sets these past few days.

Yogi Bear

These were suggested by Kimberly.

Yogi Bear was one of my dad's favorite cartoons when he was little. He had a large stuffed "yogi" that lived long enough to make it into a few of Kimberly's baby pictures. He tries to play it down when people pick on him about it, but we all know the truth! Lol. I don't know about you guys, but I thoroughly enjoyed the latest Yogi Bear movie. It was adorable! I laughed so much through it.

I'm going to just come out and admit that I, Leslie, am a big fan of Justin Timberlake. I was of tween age when *NSYNC was so popular, cut me some slack. I think he's hilarious as a comedian and I love it when he hosts Saturday Night Live! He brings a whole new dimension of funny to the show. :) Back to how that relates to Yogi Bear.... Justin Timberlake was the voice of Boo-boo in the newest movie. He altered his voice to fit the character perfectly. Thumbs up from me!

The Jetsons

Kim was harassing me for not doing the Jetsons yet. Seeing as how she suggested them way back with the Flintstones... I had some sketched out before but didn't like them enough. This was my most recent design and I really like it. I think they're all recognizable. Which is important!

*sings* Meet George Jetson...

And the tutorial. I've included my background color polishes in this pic. All the rest of the details and skin tone were done using acrylic paint.

1.  Base colors

 2. Black paint for hairlines

 3. Fill in appropriate skin tone. (It took 3 thin coats of beige acrylic paint to make it completely cover the base colors. So be patient and thoroughly let each layer dry)

 4. Add black outline details to facial features and refine. (If you're black line is accidentally too thick? Just wait until it dries and go along side it with beige to narrow the line back down.)

 5. Whites of the eyes and details to Astro's snout.

 6. Pupils

 7. Ready for a layer of topcoat once everything is dry. Acrylic paint dries so much faster than polish. So don't think you're having to wait 5-10 minutes between steps. It's more like 1-2 minutes. I usually let it dry for about 5 minutes once I'm finished with all the details before applying the topcoat. That's all it takes.

Scooby Doo - Take Two

Before we get to the nails, I'd just like to ramble for a minute. Please put up with it ;)

Sandra asked if I had a Tumblr because she had just seen my Spongebob nails there.

No... I don't have Tumblr, no I don't have a Flickr, or a Facebook. This little blog is the only piece of the internet that I take up. It saddens me that people would be using my pictures without giving me credit. I just recently started adding watermarks to my pictures to hopefully prevent this. And to tell you the truth... I hate adding watermarks. It just adds that extra step that I can accidentally forget each time. I haven't found a quick and easy way to watermark yet. (I'd love to take any suggestions). 

My point of this ramble is to let you know that I would love if you guys use my designs as inspiration for your own manis. But please throw my name in there or link back to my blog. I am perfectly OK with that. I just don't like those using my photos from before I watermarked, without crediting me. :(

On to the nails!

I was unhappy with how my first Scooby Doo manicure turned out, and I knew I would be trying again. This time I focused mainly on the faces of each of the characters. I like this one a lot better! What about you?

Meet the Flintstones

That's right, Flintstones nails.

I had a lot of fun doing these. 

Hopefully you can tell what each nail is supposed to represent by thinking back to your childhood. Just in case you were deprived of this entertainment, I'll explain them ;)

Index - Fred's outfit

Middle - Betty's outfit

Ring - Pebbles' hair (& eyebrow lol)

Pinky - Pebbles' dress

I picked just these because I felt the colors went well together and the final look was cohesive. 

I have pictures of step by step, but I'm not going to list all the colors. There were too many to think about just now. But if you are interested in anything in particular, please feel free to ask in the comment section. I will be more than happy to respond & fill you in.

What about a series of cartoon inspired nails? I already have a few more in mind. 

I would love to take your suggestions of any childhood cartoon from "back in the day."

Be as vague as the title of the cartoon, or be specific with which characters you would like to see.

I will do as many as I can realistically accomplish. 

I don't have any time frame or deadline in mind. I just want to do this as a project until I either run out of ideas, or get bored with it. Lol

So challenge me please! (But at the same time don't be crazy impossible!)
