Pink Glitter Franken

Posted by Unknown on Monday, January 9, 2012

This is a franken I made up recently. I was inspired to make something similar to Lippmann's Glitter in the Air & Candy Shop. The way the sheer polish melds with glitter. I love the pink polish of Essie Luxeffects A Cut Above, and I recently found a Forever 21 dupe. So for $2.80 a franken was born. Lol. I also had a large silver glitter polish from LA Colors that I've lost the name of (why don't they just pick a sticker on the bottle like the rest of the world?) I mixed 1/4 of each of these glitters and added Orly Pink Slip, which is a sheer pink french manicure polish.
This is 3 coats. I would like the larger glitters to show up more. I have enough room left in the bottle, so I'll tweak it a bit by adding more glitter.
What do you think? I really like it!
A sheer pink with large pink and silver glitters and a scattering of fine silver and pink glitter.
Now it just needs a name. Any suggestions?

these are a few of my favorite things

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, October 8, 2011

Teal. Gradients. Glitter. Sponging. Stamping. Stars.
Yes, these are a few of my favorite things. And here they all are in one mani!

Looooove this! Nothing better than a bunch of favorites!

This mani started out with 2 coats of Orly Bailamos.
Gorgeous 2-coat teal with shimmer!

I love this polish. I should wear it more often.

Then I began sponging on a shimmery deep teal from Forever 21, Love & Beauty - Green.
The names of the Love & Beauty polishes are hilarious. "Green" is not an accurate description of this polish, it is a dark shimmery, sheer teal with a slight duochrome effect.

Not blingy enough yet... Needs glitter and stamping.

Tada! I sponged on some glitter, Nails Inc. - Fitzroy Square from the Special Effects 3D Glitter line. Amazing teal glitter! My mom picked up that one for me in Vegas at Sephora!

I just love this. I'm going to stop saying that now.
The stamp is Bundle Monster BM14 with Wet N Wild Black Creme.

That picture is a bit out of focus but it is pretty!

I've had this on for 4 days now with no chips at all! I might have to leave it on for a few more :)
What do you guys think?

Layering with LA Girl Glitters

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Hi ladies!

I have some simple layering for you today. With all the polishes I own the possibilities are endless and I could probably play around with different combos all day. haha

The base for these combos is LA Girl Urge. This is a pretty pastel lime green with gold shimmer. I really wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did! This is somewhat sheer, so this is 3 thicker coats. Totally worth it, I think!

For the first layering combo, this is LA Girl Glitter Addict in Inspire. This is a light, rosy pink glitter with different size glitters throughout. Not too simple and not too crazy...this polish is a fun way to play with glitter and not look like a little kid. :P I wore this particular combo topped with LA Girl Diamond Top Coat for 3 days and had no tip wear and it smoothed the glitter out. Usually I get some sort of tip wear by the 2nd day.

And here is one that reminds me of Frankenstein...perfect for Halloween! I think this is my favorite of the 2. It's called Eutopia.

Overall, I am a HUGE fan of these glitters and hope to be the proud owner of all of them at some point! :)

One thing I did want to ask you ladies is, have you noticed the similarities between Forever 21 polishes and LA Girl? Their bottles are identical. And recently, I picked up the copper version of this glitter from Cherry Culture and realized it's the EXACT same as one I had from Forever 21! Weird...

Well that's all I have for now, but I will be back later to show you more! <3

*Some polishes in this post were sent for review in exchange for my honest opinions.

Milani Hi Res

Posted by Unknown on Friday, September 2, 2011

Hey ya'll! Another scheduled post today. I am driving 9 hours in the car today with a 10 month old and my hubby. OMG my sanity will probably be gone by the end of this day!!

I love the mani I am about to show you. The base is Milani Hi Res. It's a gorgeous purple holo reminiscent of China Glaze Kaleidoscopes. Application was great and this is 2 coats.

This is one of those polishes that you can definitely wear on it's own and feel satisfied. However, I am too big on nail art not to keep going!  These grapes are part of the Born Pretty Store Hello Kitty Plate. I love the way it all came together!!

Polishes used: Konad Purple, Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Love and Beauty Green.

Do you guys own any Milani 3D polishes? Thank you for reading! <3

Kleancolor Holo Yellow + Blog Awards + New Blog Poll

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Hey everyone! Here is a simple mani that kinda goes outside of my comfort zone because of the super chunky glitter. I don't want to look like a 5th grader! haha

This is before the chunky glitter. Kleancolor Holo Yellow is good in 3 coats and has scattered holo pieces that really stand out.

I bought this chunky glitter from Forever 21. I think it's name is Mardi Gras. I have a love hate relationship with these chunky glitters...I can't seem to fully embrace them, but I can't say no either! haha

I was graciously given 2 blog awards recently. The first from Laura at Clothes Cosmetics and Chat

The rules of this award are:
*Thank the person who gave you this award
*Write a post about it
*Pass it on to 10 bloggers you think really deserve it and send them a message to let them know

I was also given this award by Whitney from Elemental Styles. Since I am short on time lately and I have seen these awards circulating around for a while I'm not going to tag anyone specific but will repost the details for anyone who wants to pass them on!

Here are the Top 10 award rules:

1. Thank the person who tagged you and link to their blog.
2. Put the Top 10 Award logo on your blog.
3. List your top 10 cosmetics.
4. Choose 10 bloggers to tag, link to their blogs, and let them know.

Here are my top 10 cosmetics...in no order other than how they come to mind! ;)

1) Loreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Primer
2) Elf Mineral Booster
4) Elf Studio Eyebrow Kit
5) Dior Diorshow Mascara
6) ELF Studio Tinted Moisturizer
7) Zoya Nail Polish
8) Elf Essentials Eyelid Primer- Just as good as UD and Smashbox!!
9) Bath and Body Works Lip Glosses
10) Loreal Sublime Bronze Instant Action Self Tanner

Obviously, I am an ELF Fan! I really believe that some of their stuff rivals or trumps high end brands. What do you think of my top 10??

Thank you both!

And finally...if you have made it through this monstrous post...I have added a new poll to my blog. Let me know which untried polish you would like to see! I will try to make this a weekly thing. Until next time...<3

Super Random Swatch!

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, June 9, 2011

Hey polish lovers! I hope you are all having a fabulous day! I know this post isn't super duper exciting, but so far doing my nails is the only thing I can still do to keep myself somewhat sane while I am sick. So here is probably the most random swatch ever! It's from Forever 21, and in the bottle it has a gorgeous purple flash to it. I had a hard time getting that to show in these pics.

Forever 21 actually has some decent and fun polishes...but they are definitely hit and miss. They always have fun glitters and a few awesome one coat polishes. Unfortunately I lost count on how many coats this color was. And I have been trying to figure out what polish this color is most like and I can't figure it out! What is this random Forever 21 polish's dupe??

Green Flakies

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, June 1, 2011

This is another polish I picked up at Forever 21. Its a very sheer shimmery green with gold flakes. Its the type of polish that would take a hundred coats to build up to the color in the bottle. In these pics I layered it over 2 coats of Orly Ancient Jade. It added just a hint of shimmer without changing the Jade color.

This was one coat of green Love & Beauty.
Just a few flakes here and there.

This was two coats. Just a few more flakes, not that big of a difference.

Three coats of green Love & Beauty gives it a similar appearance to Nubar 2010. The flakes in this are much more sparse, but can build up to the same effect. Also the flakes in 2010 are larger than these flakes.

I'm having trouble being sent on an endless loop of logging in when I try to respond to comments. :( If anyone has a tip for me, I'd appreciate it!

A Polished Touch asked me about what size these nails are that I've been doing the cartoons on.
Answer - These were just called "Acrylic Nail Tips", these are size "0" or the largest. Length approx 3cm or 1.25in. The width fits my thumb. I'll try to post a comparison on my natural nail in an upcoming set!
I've been using them first because they're the largest canvas! Now I've used all of the "0" and will be using the "1" size next, and so on, and so on.

Color Club Fashion Addict

Posted by Unknown on Friday, April 1, 2011

I finally got in some of the polishes I ordered from Head2Toe Beauty! I got 4 of the holos from Color Club...Worth the Risque, Fashion Addict, Wild at Heart, and Revvvolution. With the exception of Revvvolution,  I was kinda dissapointed because the formulas were definitely not as holo-y (if that's a word) as some swatches I had seen.  I looked into it and apparently new batches of these just weren't as strong. If you squint and hold your hand up to the light just right, you can sort of see some holo. :P They are all really pretty and definite one coaters which makes them good for stamping, so it's not a total loss! So here is Fashion Addict...it's a pretty pinky/lavender color. In some lights it almost looks grey:

My town doesn't ever see sunshine, so getting good lighting to coax out any holo was hard! In the bottle, these polishes remind me of the Tronica collection from China Glaze.

Dustin managed to salvage my disappointment by coming up with this totally cute design! Perfect for spring, I think! Unfortunately it didn't last long because I got all my new Zoyas in today! I don't know where to begin with those beauties!

For stamping we used Konad Black and White Polish. A tiny nail art brush was used to fill in flowers.
Thumb: Love and Beauty (no name)
Pointer: Sinful Colors 24/7
Middle: Sinful Colors Innocent
Ring: Sinful Colors Dream On
Pinky: China Glaze Peri-Wink-le
P.S. These pics are only huge to bring out the holo-ness. :P

Butterflies and Bubbles

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, January 30, 2011

Another design idea from my amazing husband! Not many girls can say their man enjoys nail art/polish as much as, if not more than they do...I never thought this would become a hobby we share but I'm not complaining!
We did a slight gradient look with this mani, and I had to make sure there was glitter involved...this past month I don't think I bought one polish that didn't have glitter. I'm obsessed!

Polish used: E.L.F Smokey Brown with Love and Beauty glitter
Konad White and Black for stamping
Plates: Konad M36 andBorn Pretty Store M26
