31 Day Challenge - Day 29 - Supernatural

Posted by Unknown on Monday, June 11, 2012

Again, I'm going out of order, but just deal with it. I'll cover them all in the end.

A unicorn is supernatural correct? I'm taking it from the definition of  "being seemingly against the laws of nature." This is Buttercup the Unicorn from Toy Story 3.

This is the sweetest supernatural thing I've seen in...... maybe forever.

I first painted my nails with China Glaze Lemon Fizz, then China Glaze Crackle Lightening Bolt. Then I did a coat of Sally Hansen Glass Slipper for an extra magical quality. I freehanded Buttercup with acrylic paints.

Born Pretty Store - Striping Tape - Design & Review

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, May 31, 2012

Reviewing another product from the Born Pretty Store. This time it's the Striping Tape you can find here in a pack of 12 different colors for $6.29. I've recently seen a lot of new nail art looks that are featuring striping tape, so I was excited to try it myself.
I wanted to recreate this look in particular. Her's was much neater and better photographed, but this isn't a contest, right? Enjoy.
I used the gold striping tape from Born Pretty. The polishes I used were Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud, China Glaze For Audrey, and Essie Navigate Her.

As far as a review goes.... The tape was very easy to use. Same concept as using Scotch Tape on your nails, but without the pain of having to cut it into tiny strips. I just cut off a small section big enough that it would over lap the edge of my nail. Then I came in close with a pair of cuticle nippers to cut it exactly to the edge. The tape adheres well and lies flat under top coat. I didn't have any trouble until day 2 of my manicure when the topcoat had worn off some and the edges of the tape were exposed and started getting caught on everything.
I also got some Bullion Beads from Born Pretty, that's coming up next!
And you can get 10% off by using my coupon code!

Sally Hansen White Veil + Nail Art

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, May 24, 2012

Hello everyone!

I'm kind of apprehensive to show you this mani today only because I consider it somewhat of a fail. But I'm showing it to you anyway and I will let you guys be the judge. :)

I first layered Sally Hansen White Veil over OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh? I think I sped through application of the glitter a little too fast because it's not looking so pretty. haha

And then because I just couldn't stop adding stuff, I did some stamping with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri  in Mint Sprint. The Insta Dris are great polishes for stamping!

Overall I love the color combo with the glitter, but I don't feel like it came together the way I had it in my head. Too textured for my liking. So I'm gonna say close but not quite on this one.  Hate it when that happens! :)

Lush Lacquer Dreamsicle + Gradient

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Good morning readers!

Can I just say that I am dying for the China Glaze Summer Neons collection? I am getting really antsy waiting for it to show up at my Sally's!!

Now that that's out of the way...on to today's mani! :)

This is yet another indie polish from Lush Lacquer. I previously showed you another polish of their's, Chubby Checker, *here*. This one is called Dreamsicle. It's a sheer blue base with pink shimmer with silver and turquoise glitters throughout. I did a sponging gradient using OPI Fly and Sally Hansen Insta Dri Blue Away and topped it all of with one coat of Dreamsicle.

Sadly, this is one that you gotta fish around a little for the bigger glitters. Plus I don't think I did this polish justice by doing only one coat. 3 coats looks a lot like Sinful Colors Cinderella but with glitter. Very pretty!

Don't these close up shots just make you happy?

Mmmm...love it!

I hope to wear this one again as a full coverage manicure instead of just layering so I can do this gorgeous polish full justice!!

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Jewel Overcoat

Posted by Unknown on Monday, May 21, 2012

Happy Monday everyone!! Today I have the new Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Jewel Overcoats to share with you. Well I only bought two of the four. I was able to track these down at Rite Aid and Duane Reade when they came out. I know I'm very late on posting these :( I don't really remember the price I paid for these but it was somewhere between $5-$6.

White Veil is a white glitter with gold hex glitter in a clear base. Here I did 2 coats over OPI Do You 'Ear About Van Gogh? I find this one to be the most unique of the jewel overcoats. I wish the white glitters showed up as pure white instead of a light gray on this polish.

Multi-Faceted is a chunky black, silver, and holographic hex glitters. It was really hard deciding what color to do this over with, and I finally settled down with a baby blue as a base. Here was 2 coats. It was a little hard to have the glitters all spread out over the nails, that is why you see empty parts without glitter.

It's very rare to see black glitters, that's why I was really excited to get this one. It's the bigger version of my long wanted Nicole by OPI Pitch-Black Glimmer. Do I dare buy it from evilBay? I can't dish out $30 for it.

Anyways, I'm satisfied with both of these glitters, they didn't disappoint me!

What do you guys think of this?

Color Club Pretty in Platinum + OPI Pirouette My Whistle

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, May 20, 2012

Hey readers!

I hope ya'll are having a great weekend. :)

I got OPI Pirouette My Whistle from the NYC Ballet collection a while ago and decided to finally wear it...although I wish I would have put it over a dark color because it looks pretty cool that way. So this ended up being a more subdued look. I layered PMW over Color Club Pretty in Platinum. I find myself using this color pretty often...it's a gorgeous grayed out white shimmer with perfect application. I really miss Color Club sets showing up at Ross!

I added a stamp with Sally Hansen Quick Color Chrome pen in silver. I think the overall look is very ethereal looking, but subtle.

I have to say I have been pretty uninspired in terms of nail art lately. I don't know what's going on...sometimes I have so many ideas I can't choose what to do next, but that hasn't been the case lately. Hoping to get my mojo back soon! :)

31 Day Challenge - Day 25 - Inspired by Fashion

Posted by Unknown on Monday, May 14, 2012

What better cartoon fashion than Cinderella's Glass Slipper? I had no choice but to use Sinful Colors Cinderella and Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Glass Slipper!

I used Color Club Starry Temptress Topcoat and China Glaze Fairy Dust for my little glitter swirls on the other nails.

Here is a gif tutorial of how I painted the thumb nail.

my first ruffian mani

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, May 10, 2012

Hey everyone - before I start this post I am going to do some major whining! Justified whining though. I need an outlet!

I just found out that the blink-182 concert I was supposed to see next week is CANCELLED.
Because the drummer just had his tonsils out. TONSILS! Blink is my favorite band and has been for about 10 years. This was going to be my third time flying away to see them. I love them so much that I can't be mad at them but... tonsils? Drummer? He played with a broken foot before but... tonsils?! AH!

I spent close to $500 on plane tickets to go to Quebec City and now I don't know what to do. Go anyway? Spend another $150 to turn my tickets into a voucher? Ugh. It's not even the money that really bums me out but the fact that I won't be seeing blink this year. And I'm sure the stars won't all align in exactly the right ways for me to see them next year, the way they did this year. I'm so sad. :(

Anyway... depressing news aside... here is a mani I wore a few weeks ago.

I like ruffian manis but I'm not sure if I chose the right colors for my first one!

This mani started out with two coats of OPI - Russian Navy Suede.
I was wearing this for 3 days before adding the silver, I was surprised it lasted that long before chipping! Matte/suede polishes usually chip super fast but color me impressed.
I love this polish a lot, the suede effect is cool! I've got 6/7 of the suedes they released and I'd like to get the last one, too! I stupidly didn't buy it when I had the chance. (Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow Suede is the one I am missing.

So, when the chips happened, I wasn't ready to remove the color so I decided to do a ruffian mani!
A ruffian is a very chic look and can cover up your chips in a flash.

To do the look, you add a second color but you don't go all the way to the cuticle. It can be a bit tricky to get the spacing the same (notice my middle finger is different from the others) but with practice it is no problem.

The silver is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Silver Sweep. This mani was so darn reflective, it was hard to get good pictures.

I'm gonna try more ruffians this summer... but with neons!!

Now before I go, allow me to remind you that today is another day to vote for me in the Bundle Monster contest! Yes, I'm shameless.

Thanks :)

Zoya Arizona + Nail Art

Posted by Unknown

Hey everyone!

Yesterday was an exciting day as Dustin and I launched the new You Mix website! I never got a chance to blog about it yesterday because things were so busy, but there is a coupon code for 15% off your order that will be available until this Saturday. Also, we are having some issues with Google Checkout, so Paypal is the only current payment method. We are working to get that fixed ASAP!

So on to today's nails! I just have some summery nail art to show yall. Zoya Arizona and Sally Hansen  Insta Dri Speedy Sunburst are the base colors and the Insta Dri also serves as the stamping color for everything but the ring finger which is Konad White.

So bright and sunny and I love how the accent nail brings it all together!

Thank you for stopping by!

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Hey everyone! Back to live posting here from RLN headquarters.

I had a fantastic time on vacation, spent a ton of money, ate a whole bunch of good food, and of course brought home a lot of polish.

I'm gonna start this post with my usual monthly haul list, and then move on to the stuff I got while on vacation!
Before I left for vacation, I wasn't really being as good as I should have been...

I got a bunch of Color Club at Winners:

Color Club - Lavendarling

I did a review for piCture pOlish:

piCture pOlish - Monroe
piCture pOlish - Mask-A-Rade

I got two polishes from my friend Briana:
Icing - The Golden Age of Glitter
Icing - After Party

I bought two polishes from Pretty and Polished:
Pretty & Polished - Party on my Yacht

I got a bunch of OPI on clearance for $1.99! (Such a good deal!):
OPI - Paint My Moji-toes Red
OPI - Pedal Faster Suzi
OPI - I Don't Give A Rotterdam
OPI - French Quarter For Your Thoughts
OPI - Vampsterdam
OPI - Give Me The Moon!
OPI - 18K Ginza Gold
OPI - Skull and Glossbones (backup!)

I also got 2 OPI's from AveYou that my friend Marissa kindly helped me get:
OPI - Lincoln Park After Dark Suede
OPI - We'll Always Have Paris Suede

Other stuff:
LCN - Love Me Love My Polish (99 cents!)
LCN - Sweet Serenade (99 cents!)
Born Pretty Magnetic - L-001 (sent for review)

Okay, I did pretty bad before leaving. And I'm sure you know how it goes from here...

I picked up a bunch of Color Club's from a few different places! Good prices, too. I'm trying to complete the Poptastic collection (because there are way more than just the 7-piece set) and I almost have all of them now! As well I hope to finish my Glitter Vixen collection (3 left to find.) And I was totally excited to find the other purple glitter (the mini) as I've been lusting after it!
Top row:
Color Club - Where's The Soiree?
Color Club - Peace Out Purple (mini)
Color Club - Youthquake (mini)
Color Club - Too Violet (mini)
Color Club - Magic Attraction
Bottom row:
Color Club - Feelin' Groovy
Color Club - MODern Pink
Color Club - Koo-Koo Cachoo
Color Club - Peppermint Twist (full size backup!)
Color Club - The Lime Starts Here
Color Club - Mrs. Robinson

Of course I splurged on some Sephora by OPI polishes. I told you that more Betsey's would come home with me! And a shatter did, too. It was on sale.
Sephora by OPI - Sparkling Personality
Sephora by OPI - Opalescent Blasted
Sephora by OPI - Cartwheels on the Catwalk

I picked up a few random things along the way, of course.
OPI - Lemonade Stand By Your Man (I am in love with this name! And it was on sale. So I got it.)
Love & Beauty - Orchid (Saw this at the cash at Forever 21 and I figured hey, I'm buying half the damn store anyway, this can come home with me too.)
Sinful Colors - Dream On (I picked this up at Walgreens, my first time ever inside one. It was on sale for 99 cents so picked it up. Later on I regretted it because CC Mrs. Robinson is the same color and I bought that too.)
Nails Inc. - The Thames (OMG, this was on clearance so of course it came home. The bottle is so awesome, it's a nice collectible to have. They sell for $24.50 at Sephora in Canada and it was on sale for $11.)

These pretties came to me from the lovely Hayley from Here Comes The Sun. We've become friends online over the last year or so, and we decided to meet up and do some polish shopping!
Hayley picked me up and we hit up a few malls and had a great time. She brought me these three beauties (as well as Color Club The Lime Starts Here as seen above to complete my Wicked Sweet collection that you may remember came with a wrong color.)
Sally Hansen Nail Prisms - Blush Diamond (I think that's what it is, no name on it.)
Maybelinne Colorama - Ruby Rays (flakie!)
Sally Hansen Nail Prisms - Emerald Amethyst (duochome!)

Thank you so much for taking me out Hayley, and for bringing me these pretties! It was lovely meeting you and also nice getting a break from all the family time! Hahaha.

I came home to two amazing nail mails that my dad kindly rescued for me while I was away and unable to stalk the mailman.
Cover Band - Sticks and Stones (from Ninja Polish! Love those girls!)
Sonoma Nail Art - Sonoma Sunset (be sure to stalk Michelle's Etsy store! Love this girl too!)

Okay, that's all the polish.
Count? 55.
Some were for review, some were gifts, some were super cheap, and vacation stuff never counts, right?

I'm also gonna show you some of the other exciting stuff I got while on holiday!

I bought a freakin' ton of clothes. There's no Forever 21 or H&M in my province so whenever I get to shop there, I go crazy! I could have bought like five times as much but my mom might have shot me if I made her go into anymore F21's.
You'll notice I got a lot of leopard print... a lot of dots... a lot of hearts... a lot of bows... Life imitates nail art? Haha!

Hello Kitty clock for $8? Yes please.

I love sandals! Especially ones that are sparkly purple or ones that have bows.
I also picked up some black pumps for $10 and some Nike sneakers but I didn't take a picture because they're not as special as these.
The purple ones are American Eagle but they are from Payless and the bows Steve Madden from DSW. In love!

I made my very first MAC purchase...
I was lusting after this item for a while after seeing it online but I wasn't sure if it would work with my skin tone.
And then the lovely guy at MAC said "Are you kidding me?! It's perfect for you!"
He convinced me after complimenting my hair/eyes/skin (as I'm sure he does for everyone) but I felt special, okay? Haha!

What is this mystery item?

MAC Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick
I figure, if I'm spending $17.50 on a lipstick, it might as well be crazy, and even better that the money goes to charity.

I bought Lush's Lemony Flutter cuticle butter as well but forgot to take a picture. That was a splurge too but you know, vacation, guilt-free, etc.

Now you've seen pretty much everything.
But I've saved the best purchase for last...

I went to the Betsey Johnson boutique in Toronto. What's inside this hot pink bag?

A hot pink box. And what's inside the hot pink box?

A hot pink bag. And what's in the bag?

A beautiful ring!
OMG, I love it. I'm so happy I found it, and I got it for a steal

Holy crap, it makes me so happy.
(Manicure featuring Color Club The Lime Starts Here and MODern Pink - done while on vacation!)

Okay, you've seen my polish and my splurges and my Betsey ring. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed shopping for all the things in it. Heh. See you guys tomorrow!
