WIC by Herôme - Colourful Curaçao collection

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, May 19, 2012

Hello everyone! :-) For this post I have swatches from Dutch brand WIC by Herôme. Every now and then WIC comes up with a limited collection. And I'm always very excited to see them because they often contain interesting colors or finishes that really stand out against their core collection which mostly consists of cremes. This time I'm showing you the Colourful Curaçao collection, a mix of bright shimmers and two frosts, let's have a look at the polishes then!

Kontiki Beach - A lovely violet shimmer. The formula was amazing and it needed two coats for coverage. Usually I'm more drawn to blue-toned purples but I think Kontiki Beach is just gorgeous!

Mambo Beach - A typical old-fashioned pink frost that our mommies used to wear a few decades ago... (Though it appears much more orangy on the pictures.) I tried to be open-minded when I swatched this polish, but I really don't like it. That color combined with the frosty finish is just so dated. The good thing however, is that brushstrokes were easy to avoid. I applied two coats and as you can see, the frosty finish is almost perfectly smooth.

Blue Bay - The second frost in this collection, a silver with small hints of blue/purple. The color was hard to capture in my pictures though, in real life it's less purple and more silver. Blue Bay looked quite interesting in the bottle, but unfortunately it's not that pretty on the nails. I used two coats for coverage and extreme brushstrokes were just inevitable. :-(

Cabana Beach - A bright turquoise shimmer. Ooh, I love this one! The color, formula and application are great. The only thing that would make Cabana Beach even better is if it covers in less than three coats, other than that it's perfect!

Banda Bou - I was most excited to try out this polish. The dusty, yellow-toned green color is already interesting, but then there's that subtle silver pearly finish that completes it. Yellow-toned greens normally aren't my cup of tea, but this one I like. Look at that unusual color and finish. ^^ I applied 2-3 coats.

Daaibooi Beach - Last but certainly not least! Daaibooi Beach is a rich, blue-toned green shimmer. It's quite an unusual color for a spring collection, but who cares when it's this pretty, it has so much depth! This one also needed three (thin) coats, but you can probably get away with two thicker ones as well.

So here you have it, WIC's Colourful Curaçao collection. I honestly like the whole collection except for the two frosts, but I'm glad to see WIC has the courage to try something different, who knows what they'll come up with next time. What do you think of these polishes?

W.I.C. nail polishes are available in the Herôme
online shop for  €7.50 per bottle of 0.7ml/0.2 fl.oz., or 12.50 for two. Shipping is worldwide.

These polishes were sent to me for review.

Zoya Tracie In The Sun & The Shade

Posted by Unknown on Monday, April 30, 2012

Zoya Tracie is a faded, yellow-toned pistachio green with delicate silvery shimmer for a frosted pearl finish."  Nice formula that only needs 2 coats. I love the color but I'm not a huge fan of the frost finish so I'll be passing this one along to a friend.

Sation Silver Frost & Suede Shoes

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, February 2, 2012

Sation recently updated their brand & bottles & I have a few of their new polishes to show you this week. The bottles are oval with thick glass bottoms. The new brushes are great for ladies like me that love wide brushes. The formula on all the ones I've tried is excellent. Sation can now be purchased here.

First we have Silver Frost, which is exactly what it sounds like. I know frosts aren't the most popular of finishes right now, but I do like this one. It looks just like pulled sugar! This is 3 coats & you don't have to worry much about brushstrokes with this frost because of the excellent formula & wide brush.

Next we have Suede Shoes. I love blue polishes & this is no exception. Suede Shoes looks almost exactly like the main color of current Pepsi cans. Excellent formula that covers in 2 or 3 easily applied coats. Click the pictures taken in the shade to see the pretty shimmer.

Next up I'll have my first Valentine's Day manicure of the year featuring these two pretty polishes. Thanks for reading!

French Tip Dip Riviera Moon

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, September 6, 2011

I won a French Tip Dip Kit a while back and ended up really liking their white polish and their topcoat. I contacted them to see if they might be interested in sending me some of their other polish colors to try out and French Tip Dip Riviera Moon is the second one I tried.

I'm not really a big sheer fan, but I love this one even more than yesterday's Cannes! Once again, the formula was terrific and you can get this look with just 2 coats. Hard to capture this one! Riviera Moon is an excellent name for this lovely polish. It's a bit frosty and has more of an off white tinted base as opposed to the clear base in Cannes. Both Cannes & Riviera Moon are polishes that really shine in low light. Constantly flashing a subtle glow of color.
My boyfriend Will loves this one too. Who would have thought that I would love 2 sheers in a row! This is why I love to get samples and win prizes in giveaways. I end up trying things I would never purchase & end up broadening my horizons!

Tomorrow I'll show both Cannes & Riviera Moon layered over a few colors.

Thanks for reading!

A Few BB Coutures

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, June 15, 2010

I won these along with Poison Ivy as part of an Earth Day BB Couture set. I love Poison Ivy, but unfortunately, I don't like any of these 3 brushstrokey frosts. I used 3 coats for each of them.

First we have BB Couture Espresso Dream which I would describe as a frosty, metallic tan.

There was a pretty little butterfly flitting around my garden while taking pictures of this one.

Next we have BB Couture Caramel Carma, a frosty metallic caramel.

Finally we have BB Couture Autumn Sunset, a rusty brown, frosty metallic. I thought I would like this one the most but it made me feel like a scary, mean, old lady! The kind that would play slots all day in Vegas with her hair all done up while she chain smokes menthols.

I put all three of them on my pinky and I like them together.

The formula was nice and BB Couture still has more colors that I want to own than any other company. These three frosty browns just don't do it for me though.

China Glaze New Day

Posted by Unknown on Friday, February 26, 2010

I picked this up in our favorite crazy nail polish store (one for me and one for our giveaway). China Glaze New Day is a dusty with a silver cap but I can't find it anywhere on the China Glaze website. Anybody know more about this one? I've been looking for cornflower blues lately so I was immediately drawn to this one when I saw it in the dusty bin. I would call it a cornflower blue frost. The formula was a little difficult and this is three coats.

Have you entered all three of our giveaways yet? Ashley & I worked hard to make the instructions clear and easy to follow. What do you think of the form? We went with this method for a lot of reasons. It protects you email address and it automatically puts each entry into a google spreadsheet that I can sort anyway I wish. This makes finding cheaters much simpler and also greatly simplifies using a random number generator to pick the winner since each entry is already in a numbered spreadsheet.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue Streak & Jumpin Jade

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, January 7, 2010

Here are a couple of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri pictures that I've been meaning to post for ages. I personally LOVE everything about the Insta-Dri line. I have very wide nails, so the extra wide brush is perfect for me. I know a lot of you ladies can't stand the brush though. I also love the formula on the two I have tried so far. One coat for both of these colors. One coat and a super fast dry time is impossible to beat in my world. I recently took the RBL Spongebob Collection off of my want list because I just can't stand the thought of doing 5 coats!

I really want more of this particular Sally Hansen line. Lickety-Split Lime was at the top of my lemming list over the summer, but I never found it here in Tulsa. What do you ladies think of this line? Are there any colors you love in spite of the brush?

First up is Blue Streak. For some reason, I never end up liking turquoise on my nails. It's one of my favorite colors, so I really have no explanation for this quirk of mine. The color is lovely and I think it might work well for Konad. (The bubbles were from some random base coat I was trying.)

Next we have Jumpin Jade. I LOVE this one! Not the most unique color in the polish world any more, but super gorgeous just the same. I tried Nail Tech Foundation II as a matte topcoat on my ring finger but wasn't happy with the result. It totally erased the shimmer and made my nail look like green rubber.

L.A. Colors Intense Collection Part 3

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, November 12, 2009

I had a really difficult time getting a proper color of this gorgeous polish! I would call it purple with hot pink frost. Is there such a thing? Anyway it is really beautiful. I took pictures in all sorts of light to try and capture the hot pink frost. The first picture is is what it looks like most of the time. The last polish in this collection is a light green shimmer that is very sheer. You'll have to bug Ashley for the swatch of this one since I still have some staining on my tips.

I need your advice on how to ship polish to Australia! I finally figured out that the person I am supposed to be sending polishes to for the holiday swap lives down under and I am at a loss as to how to do this without breaking my budget. Any advice will be much appreciated!!! I never got the email about who my person was because I mistyped my email when signing into the swap. I find this a little troubling because this means that people can just enter in a fake email address and get free stuff right? It seems like they would want to verify the email address before allowing someone to participate.

Thanks for reading.

Zoya Pasha & Givaway Roundup

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, September 20, 2009

I got this one from the Zoya twitter sale. I loved the pictures I saw online, but when I did a quick swatch on one finger, I was worried it would clash with my skin tone. I finally got around to doing a full manicure and boy was I wrong! This will be one of my new go to colors. Super easy to apply and goes with most outfits. I finally decided the color looks like the iced coffee that sits in the little bowls of your ice. Zoya Pasha is a lovely polish!
