Kleancolor Black Chunky Holo

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, March 15, 2012

So a while ago, I purchased a set of Kleancolor polishes off of eBay, mainly just for this one, but as a set, I couldn't really beat the price :) I have yet to play with the others yet and really need to! Also, if you do not already know, let me warn you, Kleancolor polishes have a smell like no other, but it is bearable :)

Cult Nails Clairvoyant

November 29, 2011

This is two coats of Color Club Snakeskin with no top coat.

Then I added two coats of Cult Nails Clairvoyant

Later I saw the most beautiful Layering manicure with Cult Nails Clairvoyant posted by Sarah over at Samariums Swatches. I just HAD to do it. So the next day I took off my version and repainted my nails to match her version!!!!

This is two coats of China Glaze Liquid Leather and one coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black.

I think the above photo looks awesome. This photo was my husband's first attempt at an HDR photo. He is still trying to get the hang of the whole HDR photos thing. I just thought I would share because I thought it was cool---brought out all the greens. It has a green glow!

Then I added a coat of Cult Nails Clairvoyant! OMG! This is gorg. Thanks Sarah for sharing this combo!

Swatching - Chunky Holo Black

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, November 20, 2011

Usually I find swatching really boring -- I guess I'm too into nail art to care about solid colors. I also do you usually find glittery polishes exciting, but Kleancolor's Chunk Holo Black = love. It is so amazing, that I decided to swatch it! I suck at taking pictures, so these don't do the polish justice.

Chunky Holo Black is a "holographic" (really it's more of a duo-chrome) jelly based polish that has multiple sizes of hexagon glitter. It is beautiful. It kind of takes on the look of a flakey because of the different sizes of hexagons. Here I applied 3 coats over black nail polish. There are only two disadvantages to this polish (and all the Kleancolor polishes, really) is that it smells HORRIBLE and it takes FOREVER to dry. But it's worth both of those pitfalls!

Zoya Edyta + Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, November 12, 2011

November 12, 2011

This is two coats of Zoya Edyta, one coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black, and one coat of Essie Matte About You. My husband says this is the ugliest polish/combo he has ever seen, but I might have to disagree. I am used to seeing Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black over a black or purple polish with a shiny top coat. AND those combos are GORGEOUS (if you have not seen it, please google image it. It is stunning). I wanted to try something different with this polish, and here is the end result. Let me know if you like it or not. I assume the majority of you will not like it. But I liked it!

Here is two coats of Zoya Edyta with no top coat. According to Zoya.com, " this polish is a complex mixture of gold, olive, blue-green and smoky grey with a sparkling metallic finish".

My First Haul

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, October 29, 2011

Well, this was my first and probably last haul! It isn't my last because I had a bad experience, just because I'm cheap! I heard about Kleancolor and went to their website and found about one million things that I *needed* so I bought them all. I didn't do any swatches because I kind of find swatches boring, but if you're curious about ANY of these products, feel free to ask me to do a swatch of something and I'll happily post it!!!

This is everything I got! You'll notice in the background the Hair Polisher, which ended up kind of sucking. It was very thick and a bit greasy. I got it for my boyfriend because he likes a silky product in his hair, but it was definitely a bust.
Here from left to right we have: Cuticle Remover, Calcium, and Madly Matte

The Cuticle Remover doesn't seem to do very much, I'm honestly not sure what the difference between good cuticles and bad cuticles is. I only know what the difference between average cuticles and INSANELY GOOD cuticles looks like. The Calcium works nicely, I like to use calcium as a base coat, and this one doesn't allow staining any more than any other base coat, so it works nicely for my purposes. Madly Matte is wonderful. I have been wanting a matte topcoat for some time now because I LOVE how matte nails look (so much so that sometimes I don't top coat my acrylic paints so that they keep their matte-ness). Madly Matte does what you would think it would do, but I've never used any other matte topcoats, so I can't compare it to other things.

And here is the reason I went to Kleancolor in the first place: Chunky Holo Black, Chunky Holo Bluebell, and Chunky Holo Fuschia

Oh man, oh man. I love these so much. Chunky holo black is like my favorite thing ever. I like the picture that I took here because it gives you a good idea of what these colors look like if you don't use a base coat. The "black" is almost like a mustard-y brown, the bluebell is a light-ish blue with hints of red, and the fuschia is vibrant with hints of blue. Over a solid color base coat, these all look essentially the same. The one difference is that the black has multiple sizes of holographic hexagons where as the bluebell and fuschia only have one size. This makes the black almost look like a flakey.

An important thing to know about these is that they stink, literally not figuratively (figuratively they rock). When you open up the polishes there is a pungent smell that can easily over take a room. This didn't bother me too much, but I could see how some people might not like that. But for the price, about $2 each, can you really complain?
Left to right: Born to the Purple and Blue-Eyed Girl

I really like both of these. They are both full of two sizes of hexagon glitter and have dark jelly bases. The colors look a lot like how they do in the bottles. The only problem that I had with these two polishes was that the polish dries really really slow. For me, that was a hassle because I generally don't have a huge amount of time to paint my nails so having to sit around without moving my fingers was really annoying. On the plus side though, the hexagons easily came out of the bottle and applied thickly to the nails, so there was no lack of glitter!

Left to right: Holiday Jingle, Golden Nightmare, Holo Orange

Holiday Jingle is totally un-holiday. In the bottle it appears to be a dark green glitter, making it perfectly Christmas-y, however on the nail it is really bright green. It is neon enough that I wouldn't call it a holiday green. What I do love about it though is that the glitter is SUPER dense, so your nails just look like glitter, not at all like polish. Golden Nightmare is a black with gold sparkles. It applied nicely and looks almost like a night sky, I like using it as a background for galaxy nails! Holo Orange is gorgeous, it is what it says it is, a holographic orange polish. It isn't as dense as some holos are, so it works really nicely over top of another polish. It can definitely also work alone, and if you want to wear it by itself it looks very much like it does in this picture and only takes a few coats to become opaque.

I also got this set of tiny tiny beads for nail accents, they are hard to apply, but I love how they look. I also go a package that looks exactly like this of holographic glitter, but it was insanely hard to photograph, so there are no pictures.

Anyways, I hope this was interesting, and like I said, if you want to know more about any of the products, feel free to ask!

Blue Rose Nail Design

October 06, 2011

The inspiration for this nail design comes from Lisa at Happy Nails! I saw her manicure about a month ago, and I fell in love. So I decided to do my own version, but I think mine is a little too loud haha! It is supposed to be soft and elegant.... I used Orly La Playa and Konad Stamping Plate M65 to stamp on the rose nail design. I free handed the white french tips with white Kleancolor polish.

Kleancolor Metallics and Konad Stamping Plates Experiment

September 25, 2011

From L to R: Kleancolor Metallic Pink, Kleancolor Metallic Purple, Kleancolor Metallic Yellow, Kleancolor Metallic Brown, Kleancolor Metallic Navy, and Kleancolor Metallic Jungle

My very first special request!!!!!! Kejal from NailArt and Things asked me to do a little experiment to see how good the Kleancolor Metallics I owned were at stamping. She was looking at buying some. I have to say all six that I own are GREAT for stamping!

To demonstrate I just stamped two designs with each color on a piece of white paper. Please click to enlarge the photos! You can see the polish shows every detail of the stamp. I am concerned about the Metallic Yellow (which is really a gold polish in my opinion), but if you choose the right base color, you should be fine!

I have used the Kleancolor Metallic Pink for stamping before. Click here to see that post.

I have used the Kleancolor Metallic Brown for stamping before. Click here to see that post.

P.S I guess I should have cleaned the plate a little better between the navy and yellow polish haha!

Quick Look at: Kleancolor Chunky Purple Holo

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, August 30, 2011

You can imagine my surprise finding these in New Zealand! I always knew about the Kleancolor display at Postie, but it always has such boring colours. But yesterday... Yesterday, something amazing happened!

Chunky Holo Purple. Tons of them. I couldn't believe it! And to make things even better, the sign said "Two for $6". THREE DOLLARS EACH?!

They are $4 each if you wish not to buy two. Needless to say, I bought two bottles.

They also had another one from their Chunky Holo line. I can't quite remember it's name, but it was a bright coral/orange/pink. It had the same kind of sheer base with this sort of glitter, but it wasn't duochrome at all in the bottle. I decided to leave that one behind.

But before I purchased them, I remembered all the bad things people say about how Kleancolors smell! I opened up the bottle and took a whiff. It didn't seem that strong to me. It just smelt like nail polish. I got the boyfriend to sniff it too (we must have looked like absolute nutters in the store, debating the smell of a nail polish, taking several whiffs), he didn't think the smell was overwhelming either.

There is somebody selling these on TradeMe for $10 each. I have been seriously considering them each week, but now that I know they are $3 each, what a rip.

As soon as I got home, I whipped out a tip with OPI Sapphire in the Snow out and chucked a few coats of chunky purple holo on top. This was 4 coats.

I'm still in shock about actually seeing these in New Zealand, for less than $10.

Layering: Zoya Happi + Kleancolor Aurora

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, August 25, 2011

August 25, 2011

Not much to say about this manicure. Two coats of Zoya Happi, which is a very pretty pink with a hint of gold depending on how the light hits it. Then I added one coat of Kleancolor Aurora.

You know, I love Kleancolor as far as looking at the bottle and the awesome-ness of what the polish looks like. BUT every Kleancolor I own (which is pretty much everyone of them hahaha) SUCKS!!!! It is thick and gooey and never wants to dry. Does anyone else feel this way about Kleancolor polishes? I mean I love some of them such as Chunky Black Holo, but the application sucks!
