Mode Rock Me Sweet

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, November 26, 2011

Mode is one of the cheapest polishes around in New Zealand. They used to be only $2.50 each but now they are up to $4.50 or $4.99 each. They can be found in most chemists in a big plastic bowl.

I've bought a few of their polishes before and the quality is actually really good. The only thing is their range can be limiting. You've got all your standard colours but they do have some real stunners and they occasionally bring out newer shades.

Rock Me Sweet is relatively new. I'm thinking it must be for the holidays but they never have a special display, they just chuck them in the bowl with all the others. However I did notice there was four new glittery shades, much like Rock Me Sweet but in red, silver and black. I wasn't really wowed by the others so I just got Rock Me Sweet.

To be honest, I am still a little sad that I never picked up China Glaze Mummy May I and was hoping this polish would get rid of that lemming... No such luck. Rock Me Sweet is mostly that pinky-purple glitter in a sheer purple base but it has some sparse silver glitter in there too.

The formula of this polish is great! Really easy to paint on. I did quickly test it over a mani to see how sheer it was and I could almost see right through it. So I decided to wear it over Color Club Ready to Royal.

The wear was more than I was expecting. I went to my Nana's house for some intense sewing over three days, not a single chip! It looked just as pretty as the day I painted it on.

I highly recommend trying out these Mode polishes if you haven't already!

Mode VIP

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, December 7, 2010

I think these Mode polishes, have to be the best for value. Only $3.95 for a polish.

I first came across these in Australia a couple of years ago, wasn't too fussed on the colour range available. But it seems they are coming out with some great shades!

I only limited myself to 3 polishes. I picked up this pretty grey, a dark purple jelly with glitter and a muted teal. I am really pleased with them all! I would show you photos but my camera just died uploading this one.

Back to VIP, amazing coverage! If you were extremely precise at applying polish, you could have this done in one coat. It isn't streaky, sheer or thick. The teal was like this too. The purple one was quite watery, but I think that's needed for jelly polishes.

I don't think it is as yellow as it is showing in my photo. It's a very neutral grey.

On a side note: I have changed the comment section as I was having problems before. Hopefully it's fixed now! :)

Cool As

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Do you American folks ever wonder if it is just our overheated advertising industry that is responsible for nail polish monstrosities? Finally, I have evidence of a foreign crime worth extraditing (graciously submitted by fabulous Aussie reader Jade).

Cool As? Cool As What? I don't know if I can handle the suspense! A refreshing mountain spring? The von Trapp child Maria forgot about and left in the Alps? That gum I keep seeing commercials for where everything suddenly becomes an ice cavern and for some reason you can then talk to women with ease? Damn it, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a thermometer!*

What we really need here is some scientific rigor. (Or with this polish, rigour?)

Dear John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation: I am willing to devote my career to placing this nail polish at its appropriate point on the Coolness Scale. Send grant money and research assistants, stat.

*Not actually a doctor.

Mode - Jaded

Posted by Unknown on Friday, April 30, 2010

Here is my final Mode costmetics polish.  This one is called Jaded.

Like the others, it applied smoothly and thinly.  This is a beautiful teal shimmer.  I can still see tiny brush strokes, but they certainly don't take away from this lovely colour.

This looks very similar to Revlon Aqua Blast.  I will have to do a comparison swatch to see.

I'm planning to do a whole week of holo posts cause I just got my Nfu Oh holographics in the mail, as well as some more of the OPI Designer Series holographic polishes.

Mode - Blue steel

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, April 29, 2010

Here the second of the three Mode cosmetics polishes.
This is Blue Steel *sucks in cheeks and stares intensely at camera*

Despite not being able to get images of Derek Zoolander out of my head now, I want to express what a lovely polish this is.

It really does match the blue steel name very well, because it's a blue metal colour, with a light blue shimmer. It reminds me of that blue crusher dust that you compact down with a whacker before laying pavers.

It applied very smoothly with no brush lines. This was two coats.  YAY fore Mode polish again.

Mode - Glitterati

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Just look at this little beauty!  This is 'Glitterati' by Mode Cosmetics.  I picked this (and a few others) up from Price Attack - which is actually a hair salon / supplies shop, but they also have a few great brands of polish.

Glitterati is a rich purple jelly, with tiny irregular shaped micro flecks throughout.  It applies totally smooth, not rough like a glitter and had a super glossy finish.  The colour pigment was good, especially for a jelly polish.  This was three coats.

This pic shows a close up of the beautiful sparkly flecks in this polish.

Fabulous polish, awesome finish and a really beautiful purple colour.
I love it when you find a really fantastic polish unexpectedly. YAY!
