Comparison: Design-er De Better vs. You're Royal Shine-ness

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, February 12, 2012

I'm purging the stash again, I need to make room for almost all of those OPI New York Ballets, a few Hollands, a few Electro Pops and hopefully the Misa Spring collection.

Designer De Better and You're Royal Shine-ness are too close to own both for my liking. No they aren't dupes, but you know, they're both silver foils and that's close enough for me.

Designer De Better is a lighter silver with rose gold speckles running throughout. You're Royal Shine-ness is a darker silver that has a deep green-gold base to it. They both give great coverage and I can't fault them on their formulas.

So I asked myself what I wanted them for. A silver foil that's going to pop with an outfit, well they'll both do that... so I went with Designer De Better, just because it has rose gold in it. I love rose gold.

Designer De Better was released in The Muppets holiday collection a couple of months ago, it'll be really easy to find. You're Royal Shine-ness was a special Serena Williams release and may be harder to find in store, but online will be a breeze.

OPI Crown Me Already!

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, December 22, 2011

Let me introduce you to one of my new favourite polishes, Crown Me Already! Hate the name, love the glitter! Crown Me Already is built up of fine silver glitter, small round glitter, small hex silver glitter and big hex silver glitter. So you've got a really nice mix of sizes in there.

I've had a lot of fun with this polish! It looks really neat layered between jellys, on the tips, graduated into another colour, layered....the list just goes on. It even looks great just by itself. I am wearing two coats of it on my toes. Kind of regretting that decision but it does look really nice in the summer sun.

This is two coats. You can see how dense it is and how quickly it builds up.

Crown Me Already was released in the Miss Universe collection released earlier this year. The collection wasn't released in New Zealand, however.

China Glaze Ick-a-Bod-y

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Mum had bought me this one a little while ago, I've always been too scared to wear it. Glitter usually tends to freak me out but it always looks so pretty. Last night I decided it was time to break out Ick-a-bod-y!

This is two coats of Ick over OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys (the chocolate creme from Texas). I knew Ick had a dark green base to it but I wanted it to be a little softer looking. I was also really inspired to break out my little rhinestones. These are Nfu-Oh ones! I have had these sitting in my nail draw for several years now. They're really pretty too.

Sometimes my camera likes to surprise me with awesome macro shots like this.

OPI Glam Slam! USA Duo Pack: Love is a Racket, Pros & Bronze

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, August 25, 2011

These two sisters are amazing! If you love duochrome, shimmer, glass fleck, great coverage and insanely flattering colours, this set is for you!

LOVE IS A RACKET

First up is Love is a Racket. Love is a bright, bold, glowing red in any lighting situation.

I could just look at the bottles of these two all day.

My camera captured it as being quite bright, Love isn't a neon red but she sure is bright in the sunlight. It seems to take on more of an orange or pink side in my photos. Love is a warm toned red.

Love is a Racket is incredibly pigmented, you can easily get away with one coat. The formula is on the thicker side of things, but I think it helps with the coverage.

Glowy in all situations, just like...

PROS & BRONZE

There is probably way too many photos in this post, but Pros & Bronze is such an awesome polish. It deserves them.

This was the first set that I thought "I NEED THOSE."

Pros flips between rose gold, gold, copper and peach. I asked my boyfriend what he thought of this polish, he said to me "I think my eyes are playing tricks on me, it keeps changing". LOL, males. That might be because it is.

I am wearing three coats here. It is a little bit sparse in some places where I applied it a little bit thin. I was impatient painting it on last night, I was really excited to see the end result.

One of my new all time faves. It seems that some people have been seeing the Serena sets around NZ, I haven't been looking but haven't seen any yet. They're around the $45 mark. I bought my set from overseas, for around $15NZD. Cheap as chips, mate!

Orly Meet Me Under The Mistletoe

Posted by Unknown on Monday, November 29, 2010

I'm so happy with this colour. It feels really Christmasy to me, and I just love the shimmer in Meet Me Under The Mistletoe.

I only saw it in mini form when the store first got them in. The next time I visited they had the normal sizes in. I'm still deciding if I should get the full sized Meet Me Under The Mistletoe.

It is a pretty unique colour, has a beautiful formula too. It has really great coverage and is very smooth.

You only need two coats with this one as well, possibly three.

Chanel Les Pops Collection

Posted by Unknown on Friday, May 28, 2010

I am pretty sure almost everyone fell in love at first sight with the promo pictures of these beauties.

The Les Pops collection is now available in New Zealand and retail for $46 each. I got my lot a little early so I can't give you a release date sorry.

Riviera

Riviera
I wasn't really hyped about this one as I am sure I have something close to this shade. Mum fell in love with it though so luckily I was allowed to share it with you :) Two coats here, almost perfect coverage in first coat. Beautiful formula. Not as blue or deep as Splendeur incase you are wondering.

Mistral

Mistral
I only got Mistral and Nouvelle, but I wore this one straight away. It looks so cute in the bottle. But you do lose the glitter a little once you apply it to your nails. Mistral is a very soft, delicate, feminine shade. I like it. three coats here, it's a little more sheer than the other two.

Nouvelle Vague

Nouvelle Vague
My absolute favourite. It just looks so smooth and... frothy? lol I don't know, it reminds me of Goody Goody Gumdrop ice cream. Two coats here. The formula is honestly the best I have ever come across. Ever.

I absolutely love this collection, it's just so... cute and ice creamy. I am really glad I got them, these are limited so don't mess around if you want one or two! :)

OPI Hong Kong Pinks Comparisons

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, April 15, 2010

Ok so I thought I would compare the pinks together as I thought they were closer but really... they aren't :)

Lined up we have: Don't Think Just Pink, Lucky Lucky Lavender, I'm Ok You're Bouquet and Panda-monium Pink.
Don't Think Just Pink compared to Lucky Lucky is much more red to me and a little more squishy looking.

Lucky Lucky compared to I'm Bouquet again is more lilac toned. I'm Bouquet is quite a yellow toned pink.

I'm Bouquet compared to Pandamonium Pink is again more yellow and I guess softer looking. Pandamonium Pink is more stark, more pastel like.

My favourite shade out of all of them: Lucky Lucky Lavender. I think I will change For Audrey and put it on! First time I have worn polish for a little while, it's almost exciting again :)

MAC Liberty Of London: Nail Polish Swatches

Posted by Unknown on Friday, March 26, 2010

Blue India was very popular in the states and sold out so quickly. However, at the release party I went to, I think my mum and I were the only ones who paid attention to the polishes! So I don't think they will be quite as a big seller here.

BLUE INDIA

FORMULA
Was amazing! Best MAC formula ever! 98% coverage in the first coat. It was so smooth and creamy. I hope MAC produces more like this!

COLOUR
The colour of Blue India is sort of a dusty teal. But it doesn't have too much green in it, more of a blue teal. But definitely dusty.

It is quite a universal colour too, I tried it on and loved it, same happened with mum. My hands are more neutral coloured with yellow tones around my cuticles where as mum has more red undertones. So I think it will work with multiple skintones.

VESTRAL WHITE

FORMULA
The formula for this polish was really... different. I've never come across something like this before so I wasn't too sure on what to do for it.

It felt like I was applying a cream polish but then it left weird streaks as matte polishes do when you put them on too thin. I had to use 3 coats to get it all evened out.

I feel a white ridgefiller would help with this.

COLOUR
The colour of Vestral White is not quite a stark white. More of a creamy white. Like it has a little bit of softness to it as apposed to OPI Alpine Snow but not quite as soft as say Zoya Lucy or OPI Time-less is More.
