Silver Holo Comparisions & Ozotic 509

Posted by Unknown on Friday, August 5, 2011

With my most recent Ozotics purchased from piCture pOlish I finally got 509.  I had missed the Artform version and I was waiting for Essential Beauty to restock so I could get Chemistry 509. It was the only gap I had in my Ozotic/Artfom/Chemistry holographic collection!

509 is the Silver holo. Very sheer, but buildable.  This was three coats, no base, Seche Vite top coat.  These fine particle linear Ozotic holos are just so easy to apply, smooth, no dragging or bald patches, and you can happily apply a fast drying top coat and it wont dull the effect.

What else can make a holo better?  SUNSHINE.  For what is usually our coldest month, we have just experienced three of the most magnificent sunny day's with temps above 20 degrees.  I was actually hot outside yesterday!

I thought I would take a indoor, no artificial light picture, to show the silvery white appearance of this polish.  But as soon as any light is on around this, it rainbows up.

Ok, now a silver holo comparison to end all comparisons.  I have to say, that on my little sticks, these don't look as holoy as they do on the nail.  I know some of them look great, but others look rather crapola, but for example, take a look at the fourth from the left, that is the same polish as above. So that just shows that the sticks only give an indication of colour and holoiness.

I lined these up from left to right with small particle holos on the left and large particle or scattered holos on the right.

Now just to list these out for the search engines, from left to right:
Gosh Holographic, Nfu Oh 61, China Glaze OMG, Ozotic 509, Ozotic 514,Vintage Ozotic 509, Color Club Worth the Risque, China Glaze Sexagon, China Glaze Visit me in Prism, Milani HD and Stuf. glo glo.

Same line up, with no sun.  It was only when the sun went behind the cloud that I realised I had included two ring-ins which don't strictly belong with the silver holos.  Those two being Ozotic/Artform/Chemistry 514 (5th from left) which is actually a platinum gold, and China Glaze Visit me in Prism (4th from right) which has a mauve base.

Now some up close shots.

If anyone wants to see some comparisons on the nail, let me know.

Do you think I have enough silver holos?  It's obscene that one person should have this many, I know, but their mine I tell you. Mine. Mwahhaa haa haa haa.

Nfu Oh 93

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, May 28, 2011

I was so totally into my last mani that I just didn't want to take it off.  It finally starting chipping on the tips today, so I reluctantly took it off.  Then I did some swatching.

This is Nfu Oh 93.  I picked it up from Vivid Nails clearance sale for $2.

I really wanted to see this polish on its own. I wanted that bottle colour, no matter how many coats - I can not be beaten!. Six coats later, this is what I got.  Love it, great colour, but it would have remained dentable for at least a day!  Dented polish really irritates me, so I took it off, and....

layer it over black.  Actually I didn't use black, it was Ulta3 midnight, which is the blackest navy blue there is.  But one thin coat of midnight is fully opaque, unlike Ulta3 black satin.  I did two coats of Nfu Oh 93.

I love it on it's own, but really its a perfect layering polish.  I bought quite a few of these really sheer Nfu Oh colours for $2.  But I have a feeling that, although they are different shades, they will all look the same over black.

Is there such as thing as too much layering?

Posted by Unknown on Friday, May 20, 2011

I nabbed some awesome Nfu Oh polishes for only $2 during the Vivid Nails clearance sale a month or two back. These are #123 and #124.  This was two coats, but I could have got a better richness in colour if I had done three.

Here are the bottle pics, #123 on the left, #124 on the right.

Then I thought I would try another polish layered over the top. This is #83.

One coat of #83 over each of #123 on index and ring and #124 on middle and pinky.

Up close to see the shimmer.  I think this polish would franken into something darker very nicely.  And for only $2 I'll happily try that out.
Then I wanted to layer a bit more. So out came flaky #54.

A coat of #54 layered over #83 over #123 on index and ring and #124 on middle and pinky. In the full sun.

Same in the shade.  I think flaky polishes look way better indoors or in the shade, rather than full sun.

Finally up close.

So, with base coat, two coats of #123 or #124, then one of #83, then one of #54 the top coat = 6 coats. Excessive? maybe. Pretty? definitely.

Gosh vs Nfu Oh 61 - Who wins the holodown?

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, May 14, 2011

I posted this two days ago, but with the problems with blogger it disappeared and went back to draft.  Not sure if or when the awesome comments I received on this will be restored though!

It's time for the showdown - GOSH Holographic vs Nfu Oh 61.
Who will win?  And does top coat dull the holo effect, you be the judge.

First, my index finger has a tea bag patch which made the left side bulgy and look curved at the front.  It wasn't noticeable with any other polish, except when I put a holo on and the linear effect showed every imperfection.

Rightyo now.  Two fingers have GOSH holographic and two fingers have Nfu Oh 61.  After staring at them all day and examining the photos I CAN notice two differences.

This was two coats over Nfu Oh Aqua Base for each polish. I will share what I see, but first, have a good hard look.  Which two nails do you think are matching pairs.  Can you tell which two nails have top coat? Does the holo look dull on any? I've done two pictures for you to help decide.

  1. I think that one polish has a slightly more pastel holo effect with an orange cast; and
  2. I think that the other polish has a stronger blue cast at the centre of the nail.
In these close ups I see the right nail being slightly more pastel and the left nail having a stronger blue sparkle in the centre of the nail.  There are three close ups, just to show that its not just that picture or angle.

So which is which?
I used Seche Vite as my top coat.  If you could see a difference because of top coat, good for you.  But I can't, so top coat it is to make it last longer.

The winner?  In my opinion Nfu Oh 61.  But only, as my husband would say, by a bee's dick.

Nfu Oh #62

Posted by Unknown on Monday, April 11, 2011

For some reason, Nfu Oh #62 just doesn't seem to get the same love that the other Nfu Oh holos get. Especially #61 and #65.

I only just received #62 in my latest haul from Vivid Nails, and I think this might just be my favourite Nfu Oh holo colour.  It's slightly pink, but also a tan fleshy colour, but it still has the amazing linear holo effect that Nfu Oh holos are famous for.

Up close of the linear rainbow holo.

Indoors without strong light this polish is a very pretty pale pink, flesh colour.

I also applied this using Nfu Oh Aqua Base, which let me just say is AMAZING.  Had I realised how awesome it was I would have got it ages ago.  It is so shiny and wet looking that its really hard to tell if its dry.  The shininess of the base also makes the holo have a much shinier finish.

Which is your favourite Nfu Oh holo colour?

Nfu Oh polishes - order from the US

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, March 6, 2011

Fellow polish lovers here in Australia would know that its almost impossible to get Nfu Oh polishes here.  The only stockist is Vivid nails and they don't have anything on their website to give an idea of what they have in stock or what they cost. I purchased holos from them last year for $18 each. And they were selling the decent flakies (what they had in stock) for $25.40 each!  Given the Aussie dollar is parity with the US dollar, I just don't think that we Aussies should have to put up with those sort of prices or lack of availability. So...

I’m thinking of placing an order for some Nfu Oh polishes from fabuloustreet in the US, using hopshopgo.  For those that don't know, hopshopgo gives you a US address that you can ship the items to, then they post them on to you in Australia.  It gets around the whole "you have to purchase from the authorised reseller in your country" business and means we can get things from companies that wont ship internationally.  My husband and I have ordered Nike IDs, My M&Ms and a whole stack of other things and the service works perfectly.

The cost of the polishes is $12.50 on fabuloustreet, but taking into account the hopshopgo service charge and shipping to Australia, it would cost about $16.50 per bottle.  Is anyone else interested in me ordering some Nfu Oh (holos or flakies) for them??  If so, check our fabuloustreet and send me an email.  You would also need to pay for postage from my place in Canberra to you.

Just to whet your appetite, here are some of my Nfu Oh swatches.

Nfu Oh #56 flakey

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, May 25, 2010

This is the last of my Nfu Oh flakey polishes.  Unfortunately I don't have #51 so I just have to make do with the less popular ones that I can actually buy here in Australia.

This is #56 which is an amazing rich emerald green, with a green shimmer and green flakies.  On some angles it also has a blue duochrome effect on the green flakes.  Again, it's too sheer for my liking to wear on it's own.  And for some reason it makes me feel like the wicked witch of the west wearing it. Why is that?

Up close of the pretty green flakies.

And here is some magic over black.  I felt like mixing it up a bit, so I did one coat of #56 on all nails, but then added one coat of #43 with the orange flakies too.  This pic in the sun is hard to see all the beautiful colours.

Indoors you can see the colour contrast and you can see the multi colour effect of the blue and green on the index finger.

And even closer. Soooo pretty.

So while I pretty much hate my Nfu Oh flakey polishes on their own, I absolutley love them layered over other colours.

It's such a shame that these polishes aren't more easily available in Australia.  As far as I know there is only one distributor and they have a total monopoly on the market and often charge around $30 for a single bottle, especially of the popular polishes.

Nfu Oh flakies #55 and #57

Posted by Unknown

Here are some more of my Nfu Oh 'on sale' flakies haul.  I certainly can't rave about these polishes on their own.  At least they are wearable (unlike the yellows), but the colours are non descript and so incredibly sheer.

#55 is a sheer green polish with a green shimmer and orange flakies.  This swatch was three coats. Reminds me of bottle green.

Up close angled shot to see the orange flakies.

#57 is similar to the above polish except it is a lighter green tint.  Same green shimmer and orange flakies. Three coats.

Up close it's very similar to #55.

Again, over black the magic happens.  This shows #55, then #57, #55 and #57.  As you can see, over black both these polishes are identical.

Same in the sun.  Notice how these flaky polishes are really much prettier indoors than in the sun.   You loose all the flaky bits in the sun.

Finally a zoom in, #57 on the left, #55 on the right.  You can clearly see the green shimmer and the orange flakies, but notice here you can really see a duo chrome effect in the flakies and they go from green to yellow to orange.  Very cool.

Anyway, gotta run. Survivor Heroes v Villains final episode just started and I'm tragically addicted to the show.

Nfu Oh flakies 41 42 43 58

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, May 23, 2010

Seriously - pass me a bucket, I think I'm going to barf!
Here I'm showing you Nfu Oh flakies #41, #42, #43, #58.

First up, #41.  This is a yellow jelly with and orange flakey.  It also has a yellow shimmer to the polish.  After I swatched this I couldn't believe how disgusting it looked.  It made my nails look stained and as though I was suffering jaundice.  Three coats.

Here is an up close, where you can see the shimmer and the flakies.

#42 is another yellow jelly with orange flakies, but no shimmer this time.  The yellow in this is also stronger.  I still wanted to puke with the colour of this on my nails. Two coats.

Up close of this yellow hideousness.

And the hits just keep on coming with #43.  This is an orange jelly with orange flakies. Two coats.

And the barfness up close.

#58 looks so pretty in the bottle, but still pretty meh on the nail.  Certainly better than the three above.  I'd call this a burnt toffee colour with orange flakies.  Two coats.  It's another ugly colour in my opinion, but at least this is wearable on it's own.

And now, just like the ugly duckling, the polishes turn beautiful.  They just needed to be layered over black.  These pics actually show all four polishes.  You can see the shimmer in the index finger which has #41 on it.  Then #42 on the middle, #43 on the ring finger and #58 on the pinky.

Layered over black, #42, #43 and #58 are basically identical.  Which made my mum super happy, cause I gave her the bottle of #42.

Please tell me, has anyone ever actually worn these polishes on their own and not layered over anything.  I think on their own, they are truly the most hideous and unappealing polishes I own.  But layered they can be incredible.
