I had a very busy Friday and Saturday, and I had caught up to myself in my archived photos. So that's what left you guys hanging while I lived my life and forgot about this blog momentarily. But I'm back now, with some good stories!
I'll get back to nail art tonight... hopefully.
My area held a Dragon Boat Race for the first time ever! I had never heard of such a thing, but my hospital was very enthusiastic about it, so we all went and had a great time. My sister was signed up a member of the team from the beginning. However, I got pulled in for the last lap to replace another woman who had become too intoxicated to continue. These boats are tiny and packed with 21 people in close quarters and you're not allowed to even raise your arms in victory at the end. The professionals directing the event warned us that even that slight movement can capsize it. So getting drunk and stumbling around is a recipe for disaster.
I'm in the pink hat and Kim is sitting to my right.
It was an all day affair, 7-5ish. Exhausting physical activity and Louisiana weather. We still had fun though. Our team placed 5th out of 33 teams. We did pretty good considering that we're just nurses, doctors, and people that work in offices! The 1st place team was a local athletic club.... can I just say we're not surprised? They did kick butt and deserve to win.
My hat says "Any Blonde Can Do It" and my nails are OPI Not Like The Movies. I had done Kimberly's with the new Bundle Monster image that looks like croc skin for the whole dragon theme, but we failed to take pictures. Sorry!
There was an award for best drummer/leader's costume. We won! We were impressed by how serious this Orthopaedic doctor took it! My mom had the silly blond wig, all else was supplied by himself!
Our team was the Titans, so we had a gladiator/warrior theme throughout the whole thing. I brought stuff to do face painting for the team.
Some got dragon footprints:
Some got a battle axe:
And some got random patterns of dragon/lizard scales around their eyes:
I even did plenty of planning ahead of time as to what would last on their faces. I tested acrylic paints and although they looked the best with defined lines, it wiped off the minute it got wet. I knew the ones in the boats would get drenched, so there had to be another option. What I found to work was liquid and gel eyeliners. The black footprints were a gel eyeliner, then the silver of the axe was a Milani Liquif-eye pencil. The bronze and green were Milani liquid eyeliners that are serious metallics. The images stayed put all day! Everyone was very happy as was I!
